I just finished reading the book and I have to say it was awesome. I actually read the book in less than a day which is something I don't do often because of so many other things I do in a day but I just couldn't put the book down. The story is fun and entertaining. The Doctor and Donna are written perfectly. As I read on I could just hear them saying the things written in the book, never feeling as though it was something they would never say. One thing that about the book that I like is that it's softcover sized but hardcover. It looks cool. If you enjoy a good Doctor Who story and like David Tennant's Doctor, you will like this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect..., December 31, 2008

Not only is the story cool - aliens, robots, mystery! But the characters seem to be in-character, both the Doctor and Donna get equal screen time, or should I say page time, so she is not ignored. And you can see them doing almost everything in the book - every gesture, every line, every eye roll. The book is right after The Doctor Trap and has a nice flow to it. You can read it in less than a day - I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, January 2, 2011
A great Doctor/Donna adventure! The characters were true to the show, a nice mix of action, thrills and humor. This would have made an awesome two-part episode!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great from top to bottom!, December 30, 2010

I'll leave my review at seeming hyperbole. Beyond great concepts and tensions, a Doctor Who book must really authentically capture the iteration of the Doctor (here #10) and his companion(s) (here Donna); this had authenticity and humor and depth in spades. Bravo! Please keep writing Doctor books, Mr. Michalowski!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful and exciting tale!, December 29, 2010
Ah, yes, I remember this one well! Bloody well made me a goddess! ;)

With some mild moralistic undertones at its core (and really, name an episode of Doctor Who that doesn't), Shining Darkness was nothing short of excellent. Donna Noble is the perfect compliment for the Doctor throughout the book, even though they dont share the same space for the vast majority of the story. A highlight of the book is when Donna poses as The Ginger Goddess.

If only Donna could somehow come back into the series...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Doctor and Donna - can't get much better, January 24, 2010

My biggest beef about the Doctor Ten and Donna books is that there are far, far too few of them. Donna was by far Doctor Ten's best companion, a perfect mate for him, and the authors of the few Doctor/Donna books have fun with that sparkling chemistry. This outing is no different, as Mark Michalowski takes us on a wild adventure across the stars with wonderfully formed robot characters, eco-terrorists, corporate villains, and everything you look for in a Doctor Who novel. Great fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Doctor and Donna..nuff said., December 1, 2009
Ordinarliy I don't review Doctor Who novels due to the fact that I am a advid fan of ther series and have only really read a handful of the books over the last twenty years. However something about the newest series of Doctor Who has brought me to check out the books. Really geared for a younger crowd I can always enjoy a Doctor Who novel and can say it is really worth adult fans of the show checking out. I always liked the charcter of Donna Noble and was sadden by the end of the fourth series that she was taken away. Of course that doesn't mean the books have to show that.
The Doctor has taken Donna Noble to the Andromeda galaxy where humanoids and machines have an uneasy understanding amongest one another. At a museum The Doctor and Donna witness a gang of robots stealing what could only be asmued to be a piece of alien art. What the Doctor didn't count on was they accidently took Donna as well. Now the Doctor must chase after these thieves to get Donna back and figure out what was so important about a scrap art piece. Meanwhile Donna has to confront the thieves and figure out what thier plan is. Can the Doctor save Donna? Can Donna save herself and what will this mean for the galaxy where it could be man verus machine?

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't have been better!, August 12, 2009
This was the first Doctor Who book I have read from the new series.

It was fantastic. It had great characters, great aliens, robots, action, comedy, and even had a moral to the story. The story was seamless and didn't leave you with any "huhs" or "whats".

Well, the only thing that I couldn't figure out was reference to another planet, but come to find out it was referenced in another book. So you might want to read them in order.

This would have made a great episode for the TV show.
