Book Description

Eleven Doctors, eleven months, eleven stories: a year-long celebration of Doctor Who! The most exciting names in children's fiction each create their own unique adventure about the time-travelling Time Lord.

In a small town in the Nevada desert, an alien pathogen has reduced the entire population to a seething mass of black slime. When the Eighth Doctor arrives, he realises this latest threat to humanity is horrifyingly familiar - it is a virus which almost annihilated his entire race, the Time Lords...

Author Alex Scarrow puts his own unique spin on the Doctor's amazing adventures through time and space.

4.0 out of 5 stars All About Story December 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I very much enjoyed the plot. That said, I didn't get any sense of the Eighth Doctor's personality. He seemed very generic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but too short October 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It was okay, but a bit disappointing. It was too short, only having four chapters. I expected more from it, as I enjoyed the Eighth Doctor in the TV movie. The one-shot companion didn't have much of a personality. There wasn't enough backstory on the alien spore/pathogen. I liked the references to UNIT and Gallifrey.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice little story... September 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
...and a nice job of capturing the tone of the 8th Doctor. It could have been longer, with a bit more suspense.

Also, Marines say "hoo-AH" not "booyah." Quite different meanings.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spoiler-Free Review February 17, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
The Eighth Doctor: Spore is about a "nightmare" pathogen that kills everything it touches, turning all life forms into black jelly and cobwebs, and the pathogen is on Earth, near Area 51 in Nevada. The Doctor doesn't have a companion, but he eventually makes contact with a woman who has survived the pathogen, and there's the question of whether or not she'll leave with him.

Killer diseases have been done to death in American literature, from The Andromeda Strain to The Stand, and this story does have some similarities with those popular novels; the military is called in, of course, but there the paths diverge. The Eighth Doctor arrives in his usual garb ("I was at the opera," he explains), takes charge, and immediately disappears into the infection, itself. The solution is kind of neat, and I liked the story. ****

5.0 out of 5 stars Well done February 18, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was my first 8th Doctor read. It was an enjoyable introduction. The Doctor has never been so well mannered. Still smart, but not smug. It made me want to invite him over for tea.
I should read more...
