All in a lighthouse,
By Bill Huebsch (Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Doctor Who and the Horror of Fang Rock (Paperback)
This entire story takes place on a tiny island with a lighthouse. And yet it never seems confined. I have not seen this episode on TV, so it may have been different to watch as it never changed location, but when reading it things flowed very well. Once again the Doctor has to save the world, this time with the help of Leela. The story takes place in the early 1900's and the newly invented electric generator plays a central part.
Don't expect a lot of character development, which is typical for these novelizations. Do expect lots of action. A quick fun read. Enjoy!

Enclosed spaces and murder mysteries,
This review is from: Doctor Who and the Horror of Fang Rock (Paperback)
The TARDIS arrives on a small island, Fang Rock, in the early 1900s, where the Doctor and Leela meet the lighthouse keepers. It is said that Fang Rock has a beast that lurks off it, killing people. And then the killings start...This story features a Rutan, the other half of the ongoing war with the Sontarans, as mentioned in earlier Sontaran stories. With a small cast trapped in an enclosed space, we have a story with the characters being killed off one by one, and the question of who the murder is needs to be solved before no-one else is left. While the general storyline is pretty standard, Terrance Dicks put it together in a way that is reasonably fresh. Not a bad read.

Doctor Who and the Horror of Fang Rock,

An excellent telling of one of the best of the Tom Baker stories. The Doctor and Leela are trapped in a lighthouse on a foggy isle. A very exciting and suspensful tale.
