The Brigadier's ancient great-uncle Mario seems unsurprised by the spectres which haunt his even more ancient Sicilian castle. But when the Doctor comes to investigate he finds himself faced with a danger as great as any he has yet encountered.

SUPERB! DIFFERENT DON'T BE FOOLED BY OTHER REVIEWS,

This review is from: Doctor Who: The Ghosts of N-Space (A BBC Radio Full-Cast Dramatization - 3 Audio CDs) (Audio CD)
OK, why 5 stars?Ghosts of N-Space and Paradise of death are both masterpieces! These stories are very different from the usual doctor who stories, and should not be reviewed or enjoyed in the same light. I own every Doctor Who story From Doctors 1-5 and new series on VHS/DVD/CD depending on availability,so I know my who. Ghosts and Paradise are 2 of my favorites of all time. they never come out of my 10-disk cd player! Ghosts of N space Should be enjoyed for it's performances by Nick,John,Liz and guests. They are really top notch. The story if a bit slow does keep you interested all the way through. production-wise is top-notch as well. IT IS LIKE A FINE WINE, GETS BETTER THE MORE IT AGE. THE MORE YOU LISTEN, THE MORE YOU LOVE. I hated Ghosts of N-space the 1st time I listened.....but it grew into one of my all time favorites. I think its because the story is slow/tattered/and complex, and needs a couple runs to sink in completely. Once it does though, you will be begging for more of these stories. Must get Paradise of Death as well, and the same review goes to that (An all-time performance by Peter Miles or Nyder from Genesis of the Daleks). ENJOY!!!!! Trust this review. Enjoy!

Weak, but good solid Dr. Who,
By Kurt A. Johnson (North-Central Illinois, USA) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Doctor Who: The Ghosts of N-Space (A BBC Radio Full-Cast Dramatization - 3 Audio CDs) (Audio CD)
When the Brigadier visits his uncle in Sicily (OK, 3rd cousin, thrice removed), he is shocked to find the old man dealing with ghosts and what can only be described as demons. Something very strange is going on here, so the Brig. turns to the one man he knows can help, the Doctor. The Doctor arrives, and quickly diagnoses the problem, but it's not good news. It seems that a crack has developed between the normal world and Null-Space, and monsters are about to flood through. To make matters even worse, an American gangster is trying to force him to sell his private island, and the Brigadier is not one to rollover. Can the Doctor unravel the mystery of what created the crack in the N-Space barrier, and save the world? You bet he can!OK, this radio drama was recorded in 1994, and marks the last appearance of Jon Pertwee as the (third) Doctor. So, you would expect it to be well received. What went wrong? Well, it had a great deal of potential with Elisabeth Sladen (reprising her role as Sarah Jane Smith) and Nicholas Courtney (Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart) backing him up. The production suffers from two weaknesses. The first is the awful acting by the actors portraying the Americans - affecting low, low Brooklyn accents. And the second, and much more damning weakness is the poor writing of the story. Throughout the story such odd things happen as the Brigadier at first assuming that Sarah Jane was a hallucination, and the whole N-Space/life-after-death explanation is horribly hokey and over the top. But, all that said, I did in fact enjoy this CD set. It was very nice hearing the third Doctor and Sarah Jane and the Brigadier doing their magic again. And, though the story wasn't very good, it was good solid Dr. Who, with action and time travel and villains defeated. So, what can I say? Yeah, it's not the best Dr. Who, but I enjoyed it, and think that you might too. So, I give this item a guarded recommendation.

A sad finish to a great Doctor,
By Peter Ingemi (Worcester County, Massachusetts United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Doctor Who: The Ghosts of N-Space (A BBC Radio Full-Cast Dramatization - 3 Audio CDs) (Audio CD)
The Ghosts of n-Space is the 2nd of two audio adventures staring the 3rd Doctor that predate the Big Finish Audios. It constituted the final performance of Jon Pertwee as the Doctor before his death. This being the case it is sad that he would have to go out on such a poor story.Barry Letts plot is clearly one of the worst that I can remember in the series. This is a shame since Pertwee give a very strong performance with able aid from his supporting cast. The very poor Italian accents are a minus but the period situations are a plus and the best part of the 6 parts. Pertwee really throws himself into those situation and they work quite well. The Cd is also an imrovement on the rather poor photo for the cover art of the Cassette version. Unlike the other reviewers I will listen to this in my regular rotation of Dr. Who as the joy of hearing that very unappreciated doctor will override my disapointment in seeing his run end on a sour note.
