Another great Doctor Who tie-in novel. The story was fast paced, the villains interesting, the the theme a bit darker than previous DW tie-ins. I was very impressed and I felt the author did a lot of research, the description of the olde west was wonderful. The secondary characters are very well drawn, especially a school teacher and Pawnee Indian. As usual, there are callbacks to the new who series, and spot-on dialogue for the Doctor, and a few genuinely creepy moments. These books help with the long wait until series 4 debuts. Well worth a read, in my opinion.

You really should watch the series before reading the book (or at least some of the series) just to get the accents in your head.
The book is fairly true to the characters and the services. It is always interesting to se what different forms 'aliens' and their interactions with humanity can take. This book keeps the humor and 'wackiness' of the series.
And of course, Martha is a stone fox. I would get the book just cause her picture is on the cover!
Aliens in the old west. The DR saves the day (aided by Martha of course).Good concept.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Doctor Who novel so far!, April 14, 2008
This review is from: Doctor Who: Peacemaker (Doctor Who (BBC Hardcover)) (Hardcover)
In this adventure, the Doctor & Martha travel to the Old West. Once there, they eventually have to confront a couple of war-hungry aliens who have taken over the bodies of some unlucky humans. They meet a school teacher, Jenny, a teenage boy, Nathan, and a Pawnee, Walking Crow, among others. The final confrontation and climax of the story comes with the Doctor, Martha, and Nathan inside of an old iron mine facing off against the alien threat. It is edge-of-your-seat excitement as both Martha's and the Doctor's lives are on the line. Things to watch for as you're reading:"Woo" spelled up above, a gun holster with no gun, "Rides in Night", an impulsive kiss, and an advanced copy of THE TIME MACHINE. This is a good read. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Definite Gem in the Doctor Who Collection, April 7, 2008
This review is from: Doctor Who: Peacemaker (Doctor Who (BBC Hardcover)) (Hardcover)
This one really is special, and probably one of the best of the New Series books. That's saying something, as it was one of the last that I purchased. I'm not really a huge fan of westerns to be honest, but James Swallow got me hooked on this book despite that.

The menace in this book is actually very clever and a neat Sci-Fi idea. The whole book is very well executed, other then one scene where a tense situation is sort of undermined by the need for a lot of explanations of the motivations of the characters. It's not as bad as that might sound though, and for the most part the book is uniformly excellent. The Doctor and Martha in particular are well served in the story, feeling very much like their show counterparts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deservedly High Ratings, July 8, 2010

This is a very smart and well written Doctor Who novel. It focuses, wisely, on a small number of characters that the author takes the time to flesh out. The Doctor (10th) is ably represented. He is mature and compassionate and charming - NOT the kitschy amalgam of caricatures of Tennant's most eccentric qualities mashed into every scene, as represented in a few of the less well written novels. The story has just the right number of twists and turns without turning into a labyrinth of gotchas - again a fault featured in some of the other novels.

You cannot go wrong with this Doctor book, especially if you're a big Martha fan, as am I. She is also very ably sketched here.

I have read many of these books and this is among the very best.

I really liked this book, it is a good old fashion western and Martha and the Doctor seem exactly like they are in the television series minus the Doctor's hysteria and sometimes hot and cold feelings towards Martha which made him look like a lunatic. It's a great read for Doctor Who fans.

A fun light read that held true to the characters. Would love to see an episode where they go back to the old west :) This was my first book that wasn't an audiobook, and I thought the story was entertaining, clever, and true to the series. I recommend it for fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling read to a great series I love the Doctor, August 27, 2008

This book really kept my interest the entire way through. I was very involved with the story and the cahracters kept their classic charm. I have always been a fan of Doctor Who so I couldn't wait to start reading the books. I must admit that I am not irreversibly hooked on them. I so enjoy the premise of the story. For anyone who is a die-hard fan like me of the show you should totally read these books...

I enjoy the Doctor Who novels beacause they are well written. Doctor Who: The Pirate Loop (Doctor Who)
The books always open the door to the Tardis where I can walk right in and be part of time and space. I am reading "Peacemaker" and I find it to be a good story so far.
