Editorial Reviews

Review

an entertaining jaunt through TARDIS history, and pretty much a must for anyone with a fixation on the iconography of the trusty blue box.,a wonderful celebration of the history of the show and clearly aimed to delight both younger fans and their older counterparts.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for a seven year old girl and I have been assured by her parents that this book is an absolute hit with its recipient.

The illustrations are good but very small.

I initially thought this was going to be all about the Tardis, after all the book IS called "Doctor Who: The Tardis Handbook". Well, not exactly. XD

The book is not all bad. It's just not very clear what the "Tardis Handbook" is supposed to focus on. We don't get to the actual history of the real police boxes(that the Tardis is based on)until page 22, and only on pg.24-27 do we get a (very) detailed and illustrated comparison chart of how the Tardis changed appearances from the First up to the Eleventh Doctor's era.

We get entries on the Doctor's regenerations, we learn about the Time War(no new revelations here, fellow DW fanatics), and lots of other things. Some parts of the book I really enjoyed reading, like the sections on the various parts of the Tardis and the several pages worth of definitions of the Doctor's technobabble terminology(you'll love this if you ever wanted to know about things like the Dimensional Control Unit or the Gravity Tractor Beam, for example). Others, like the various 'Journey Logs'(really just episode guide summaries of the most recent Eleventh Doctor episodes), and the info on the 'redesigned' Daleks, not so much.

This a fun "pocket sized" reference guide. The are too many references to the current Doctor and this most recent season for it to cover the topic evenly, but there are a few nice bits. the most interesting was a reasonably detailed view/comparison of the different models of police box used over the years.
Ultimately this is as much fun for the classic series fan as for the newer fans of the show. worth the price, but it does leave you wishing for about 75 more pages of info.

It covers all the essentials and has some brand new info on the 2010 upgrades to the TARDIS. The illustrations are good but very small.

I'll use it when I don't have internet access but when I do the TARDIS Technical Index at [...] will still be my first and (given its greater breadth of info) last stop.

Major Dr. Who fan here! As a long-time time-travel enthusiast, I had a real blast flipping through this book during a recent trip to Egypt. No actual information about constructing one of these babies, unfortunately, though that's obviously too much to ask. Those of us looking for something more rigorous need to look elsewhere. It's more of a fun companion piece for the Who fan who thinks he has everything already. Colleagues and friends all loved it as well! Overall, I recommend it. Really wish there had been some design specs though... Enjoy it for what it is!

I bought this book and 2 other ones for my husband. He just loves them. The photos are awesome and make you feel you are right there in the picture. They are fun to look thru and reminisce.

This book is ideal for Whovians of all ages! Want to augment your knowledge of Doctor Who? Or are you a future Whovian? Either way, this is the book to read! It includes information about all of the Doctors and their tardises. One of the things that was interesting for me was that it included all of the Doctors' regenerations with their last words in one part of the book. Also, it it included a history of the Time Lords. I loved it when I read it at camp this summer and still flip through the pages during my downtime. I would call this one of the best Doctor Who books ever published. If you want to buy it, you definitely won't regret it!
