Decent Guide, But Lots of Spoilers,
By Fa-chan (Minneapolis, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Doctor Who: The Visual Dictionary (Hardcover)
First of all, this is a pretty book. Bright colors, lots of big pictures, and good quality binding. But it covers the four new seasons, specials and all. It's basically reviewing the characters, enemies and episodes. If you've watched all four new seasons, there probably won't be much new to you here. If you haven't seen all four new seasons, I'd say watch them, because this book has major spoilers. I got this from my library, read it, and returned it the next day. I'd say it's a book buy for a younger fan who might not notice as many details as an adult would when they watch it. My 12 year old sister loves this guide, but I don't see any reason to pick it up more than a couple times.

Very well done book on the new Doctor Who,

The original television show Doctor Who ran from 1963 to 1989. In 2005 the show was relaunched with Christopher Eccleston playing the Doctor, and later in 2005 David Tennant took over the role of the Doctor (which he held until 2010). This 2009 book is an American edition of the 2007 British book, which covers Doctor Who from its 2005 relaunch through the 2007 episode, Smith and Jones.
Overall, I found the book to be very well done. It contains a lot of great pictures and a lot of wonderful information. The book is very well designed and is very attractive to the eye. So, if you are a fan of the new Doctor Who, then do yourself a favor, and get this book!

This is an excellent guide to the technology, aliens and Bad Guys of the new Dr Who series. And while the descriptions do mention the original series quite often, there is no actual coverage of the previous Doctors.
I for one would love to see a follow up book or two that focuses on the previous Doctors and their adventures.

This is a delightful little resource book on all things New-Who. There are photos aplenty, and the layout is bold, with basic key facts and figures on the Time Lord as played by David Tennant and various friends and foes. There could have been a bit more material on the classic Doctor Who --in order to turn a nifty book into a superb book--but that's a small thing.
This one is a good TV-side keeper for all age groups. |
