Product Description

Size: 75 mg 60 Vcaps

Best brain magnesium supplies magnesium l-threonate (Magtein), a unique magnesium compound for delivering magnesium to the brain. Magnesium is essential for the brain connections (synapses) that facilitate learning, memory, attention, and all other brain functions. The l-threonate salt extends the action of magnesium. In preclinical studies, Magtein performed better than other magnesium compounds for synapse support.

This is a side-by-side comparison of ten leading magnesium l-threonate supplements: Doctor's Best Brain Magnesium (75 mgs), Jarrow MagMind Magnesium L-Threonate, Life Extension Neuro-Mag Magnesium L-Threonate, Swanson Magnesium L-Threonate, Source Naturals Magtein, Vitacost Magtein Magnesium L-Threonate, Pure Encapsulations CogniMag, Dr. Mercola Magnesium L-Threonate, and Piping Rock Magtein Magnesium L-Threonate.

FORMS OF MAGNESIUM SUPPLEMENTS: Magnesium supplements come in a variety of forms, such as magnesium glycinate, a chelated form of magnesium that tends to provide the highest levels of absorption and bioavailability and is typically considered ideal for those who are trying to correct a deficiency; magnesium citrate, which is a magnesium with citric acid, and has laxative properties; magnesium oxide, which is a non-chelated type of magnesium, that has stool softening properties; and Magnesium L-Threonate, which is a newer, emerging form of magnesium supplement that appears to have promising cognitive benefits. The purpose of this review is to concentrate on Magnesium L-Threonate, better known as "MgT."

MAGNESIUM L-THREONATE OVERVIEW: In addition to support for cardiovascular and bone health, energy, metabolism, and mood, provided by elemental magnesium, researchers are now focusing on magnesium's benefits for cognitive function. Magnesium has long been known as a key nutrient for optimal brain function. More recently, scientists have found it specifically promotes learning and memory as a result of its beneficial effect on synaptic plasticity and density.

The neurodegenerative processes involved in memory loss result from deterioration of connectivity between brain cells but are not a natural function of aging.

I have been using the angstrom form of magnesium chloride, MgCl2 (liquid) for nearly 2 years and have seen a significant improvement in many health areas including seeing an improvement in my eye prescription from 20/450 to 20/325 in one year. When I read the information on the magnesium threonate form and the targeted benefits specific to brain functioning, I placed my first order and immediately experienced increased clarity and brain functioning. This immediate effect was phenomenal for me, as generally it takes some time for me to see benefits due to my resistance when it comes to taking medications and supplements, and typically only after I increase the dosages.

Subsequently, upon being diagnosed very recently with spinal osteoarthritis, my Dr put me on Vicodin and due to my resistance to meds I have to take 2 pills at a time to get any relief from the pain. This results in the miserable and common side effect of constipation. Knowing that certain forms of magnesium can have an effect which can result in diarrhea (but not the MgCl2 angstrom form that I continue to take), I decided to experiment with the magnesium threonate and for me, taking 3 threonate pills in the morning and 2 in the afternoon provides the balance necessary for me to counteract the side effects of the Vicodin until I can find a way to overcome the pain of the OA in my back through other non-medicinal ways. This also maintains my mental clarity throughout the day. As a premenopausal woman, brain fog is a common effect of going through this life stage so perhaps that is why I have been able to see such a dramatic improvement so soon after starting to take this form of magnesium. It was as if someone had flipped the "on" switch in my head, and I could think and reason like I could when I was younger!

I like this stuff better than the Swanson variant. The science is still sketchy so if you are here you have done some research. I can say this when I started using it I had vivid dreams about my past. The dreams were very pleasant I would call them old memories actually. If the science is supported in humans it should supplement the hippocampus. I work in the field of sleep medicine so there is abundance of research regarding the hippocampus and sleep which also impacts memory retention. You know it is a supplement so right now if you take these supplements you are your own experiment. So write it down maybe and help humanity and share like a scientist would.

Oh this sounded exciting and promising in the reviews and what I could find out about it online, and because magnesium is so critically important, especially for mood and sleep, which I have challenges with, but unfortunately I had a bad reaction to this, and it not only didn't help anxiety, it made me feel MORE anxious!

I know we are all genetically different and metabolize things differently, so my experience may be unique and others won't have it. I gave mine away to a friend, and I haven't heard her complain about it yet. Perhaps it interacted with another supplement or I already had enough magnesium in my brain? No idea but just FYI to any others who are sensitive. (on 23andme dna testing, found out I am a slow metabolizer of caffeine and and tend to chemical sensitivity, probably because of the slower chemical breakdown..so anyone else who has this mutation, be warned, could be the reason),
