I have three dogs and each is different, this book has given me lots of helpful hints. It gives you enough information to know when it's time to see a vet, or if you can handle a situation on your own. But never leads you to believe it takes the place of your vet. Loads of information for a dog or cat owner. I am very pleased with my choice.

Thick book but not much info to show for it. Skip this one as there are much better books of this type out there. I thought this book would be full of at home remedies and detailed information on over the counter human medicine that is safe for pets and herbal treatments to try. However, it is as if the authors purposely decided to give scant and vague information sometimes leaving out dosage (so as not to let the door open for liability?). Another major problem with this book is that you have to go to each page referenced in the index to read about a given condition. For example, if you want to learn about keeping a dog's ears clean with home made preparations, you can find a quote from Dr. Degen on page 77, a snipet from Dr. Allen Paul on page 167, etc, etc. and then, a disclaimer on page 125 telling you not to use at home products but to see your vet and only use what your vet says. The chapter on dental care is all about gradually getting your pet to accept a brush by trying garlic salt and tuna fish water. At no point does the chapter ever get into any facts about what products to look for or make, what veterinarians think about different ingredients in products, etc. Just a collection of very general tips for approaching your dog's mouth. A collection of random, general snipets put together in a non-logical order earns this book one star. sp

this book recently came in very handy. 1 of the 5 month old puppies was playing with his dad and daddy got a little to rough-the puppy got a renched neck-I didn't know how much apirin I was supposed to give him for the pain-but I rmembered I had this book so I looked under Apirin-then pain and it said 1/4 325miliigrams per 10lbs of body weight-since the puppy weighs about 45lbs I gave him a whole aspirin and after about 30min he was playing again like nothing was wrong.

A lot of what's in this book isn't very helpful. The remedies are all pretty basic and not very well explained on why you would do them. I work w/ animals and wouldn't recommend this book to any of the owners we see.

I have purchased many books on pet care. I honestly think this is one of the best I have ever had. It is filled with ideas to help your pet in a natural way....its a must have for any dog owner.

We have a couple of animals - 2 dogs and 3 cats. This book has saved us so much time and stress and money! We are able to get an idea of what is wrong with our animals while waiting for our vet appointment. This takes a lot of the worry away from us knowing that there is no immediate danger. Our neighbors are amazingly envious of this book, so we are going to get each of the a copy when we move.

I did keep this book in order to have a variety in my library. Many common sense remedies, however, if you are a first time pet owner, this book would be great.

This is a great book to have if you own a pet. This book has saved me from running to the vet every time my pooch has been sick. Love the Doctors books!

A must have for any pet owner!!! The go-to book for everything and more!!! Highly recommend to any great pet owner!

As a dog owner and professional groomer, I would NOT be without this book on hand!
