I'm 54 years old and recently had a complete examination with a cardologist. After I was done I could have opened a phamarcy with the number of prescription drugs my doctor gave me. Boy, was I scared! Then a friend suggested I read a new book called, The Heart Cure by Dr.Sears. Wow! Was I surprised to learn there are many other alternatives besides drugs. After just two...

3.0 out of 5 stars Alternative to questionable 'cardio exercise', statins, etc...
For some time I suspected that interval training was the way to go, as after doing days of intensive grappling and other activities requiring a lot of muscle output ('anaerobic' in nature) I felt excellent, almost as if I had had an oxygen infusion.

Personally I have not quantified (with heart monitor) the percentage outputs of my workouts, but rather use a...

After just two months of following Dr. Sears suggestions my cholesterol has dropped, my blood pressure is better and I'm feeling like a million bucks. Great Book...You've got to read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Save a Life... Read this Book, March 29, 2005

I bought this book for my father who was suffering from the side effects of statin drugs. Until he read this book, we didn't even realize that the debilitating muscle pain and overall weakness were being caused by these so-called "wonder drugs."

Six months later, my father is back to his old self and has the energy to travel and play with his grand kids.

As for myself, I feel more confident following a lifestyle that is heart healthy. And much to my surprise, it does not involve bland diets or long-winded exercise routines.

I feel very fortunate to have discovered Dr. Sears and his book. His website is also very informative: www.alsearsmd.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, August 10, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Doctor's Heart Cure, Beyond the Modern Myths of Diet and Exercise: The Clinically-Proven Plan of Breakthrough Health Secrets That Helps You Build a Powerful, Disease-Free Heart (Paperback)
I have read several diet/nutrition books through the years, and this has to be one of the best.I had already put into practice many of Dr. Sears advice by eliminating junk food, eating grass fed beef, wild salmon, and more green vegetables.
I was especially impressed by the chapters on exercise. I have never been a fan of extened cardio, so I will now be using the PACE program in addition to the weight training that I am already doing.
In the past, high carb and high starch had caused me to gain 20 pounds over four years. Now, with Dr. Sears' program, I have been dropping a steady pound a week with no hunger problems. Plus, I feel much more energetic.
I would definitely recommend this book.

The information in this book could be very useful to many people besides those who have heart problems. I read it to learn about the PACE method. I really liked the arguments in favor of abandoning long duration endurance exercises because it's not an activity that I particularly enjoy. I only subjected myself to that torture in the past because I thought it was essiential to improoving my health. However, I'm never going to do it again because this book provides good reasons against it and provides a much better alternative. I think that the PACE method provides a much better cardiovascular work out and best of all, it's far more enjoyable. I would recommend this book for people in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars Attention all cardiologists!, December 3, 2004
This review is from: The Doctor's Heart Cure, Beyond the Modern Myths of Diet and Exercise: The Clinically-Proven Plan of Breakthrough Health Secrets That Helps You Build a Powerful, Disease-Free Heart (Paperback)
Finally! A scientific, fact-based, easy-to-understand guide to preserving and even restoring the heart of our youth, with an incredibly simple approach. Dr. Sears has crafted a research-backed plan to heart health that details how the proper diet, natural supplementation, and simple exercises can do more to improve your heart's endurance and capacity than any manner of pharmaceutical regimen. And the ease with which this can be done is amazing, and expertly outlined. The chapters explaining the chronic obesity problem in this country, and the tragic contributory effects of modern agriculture to this health crisis, are particularly fascinating and enlightening.
This book should find its way onto the shelf of any self-respecting cardiologist, preferably dislodging the seriously over-used prescription pad from its prominent position front and center in the battle against heart disease. Highly recommended to one and all!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's great to see my father enjoying life again..., March 3, 2008

Back in 2001, my father suffered a heart attack. He was 51 at the time and aside from arthritis pain, was otherwise healthy. There was a family history of heart disease, but he went for regular checkups and his heart had been in fine condition up until that point, his doctor had seen no previous cause for concern. It wasn't until a few months later that the media started talking about the medication Vioxx and it's link to heart attacks, etc. My father had been prescribed Vioxx just a few months prior to his heart attack.

Since then he'd been prescribed a cocktail of drugs to "prevent" another attack, but they brought a whole slew of other problems....more pain, depleted energy, trouble sleeping and the like and even with cutting back on all the foods his doctors told him were a no-no after a heart attack, he gained about 50 lbs! Before all the heart medications, my father was an active man...spending hours in the garage working on his classic cars or going out to the lake on the weekends to canoe....but after being prescribed all these new meds he just didn't have the energy to enjoy life anymore...he'd come home from work and would be asleep in the chair before you even had a chance to ask him about his day.

When I came across The Doctor's Heart Cure, I was skeptical at first but I read it through and agreed with everything Dr. Sears had to say....the next hurdle was getting my father, who has nothing but pure faith in his Doctors to at least READ it. After some urging and another health scare my father finally decided to read the book. He slowly began following Dr. Sears' advice and began to abandon the various medications he'd been prescribed. He's only been following The Doctor's Heart Cure for about a year, but I've already seen a positive change...he's been losing weight and has more energy. He and my mother spent 2 weeks traveling through Europe in October, he just purchased a new classic car to restore and they are planning their first canoe trip in almost 4 years. It's really great to see my father enjoying life again...I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to prevent or reverse the effects of heart disease, etc.

Having congestive heart failure I have searched for information to help me get healthy again. The Drs. didn't really have the answers. After many books I found the Dr's Heart Cure. It really hit the mark. I'm now benefiting from the advice in this book. It's a new look at an old problem.
Worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A groundbreaking challenge to "conventional wisdom", June 12, 2005
This review is from: The Doctor's Heart Cure, Beyond the Modern Myths of Diet and Exercise: The Clinically-Proven Plan of Breakthrough Health Secrets That Helps You Build a Powerful, Disease-Free Heart (Paperback)
A disclaimer in The Doctor's Heart Cure warns the reader that the information within is absolutely not a substitute for the medical evaluation and recommendations of a physician. With that caveat firmly in mind, The Doctor's Health Care is a groundbreaking challenge to "conventional wisdom" concerning what is good and bad for the heart. Chapters claim that starches, not fat, are what fuel heart disease; warn against the health risks of a vegetarian lifestyle (vitamin B12 deficiency is a problem that can only be remedied with supplements, and other important nutrients are much less likely to be consumed in a vegetarian lifestyle); and recommend interval-exercise and weight training for improved heart health rather than long-duration cardiovascular exercise. Denouncing widely accepted principles in favor of lifestyle changes especially tailored for optimum heart health, The Doctor's Heart Cure offers a refreshing counter-point view and is especially recommended for those with a heart at risk seeking to gather all the information they can on their own in addition to consulting with a physician in person.
