Coming Home Was Hard

But Emma Sinclair feared leaving again would be even harder. Returning had resurrected all the joy and pain of her girlhood when she'd loved--and lost--rancher Wyatt Barlow. Was their renewed acquaintance a second chance at happiness--or just a heartbreaking game of capricious fate?

Sixteen Years Ago He'd Driven Her Away For Her Own Good

Now she was Dr. Emma Sinclair, who'd readily helped Wyatt's pregnant daughter and seemed determined to reunite their feuding families. But a future together was impossible, for there was still no way that a hardworking rancher could ever give Emma the life she deserved...!

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Dual romances, disarming characters and a lush landscape make first-time author Bridges's late 19th-century romance a delightful read. When Dr. Emma Sinclair returns home to Pine Creek, Mont., after years of medical study in Philadelphia, her first patient is 16-year-old Melissa Barlow, the daughter of Emma's first love, Wyatt. Despite Melissa's premature labor, Emma successfully delivers her healthy baby boy. The joyful event isn't enough to overcome the enmity between the Sinclairs and the Barlows, however. The two families have been feuding like the Montagues and the Capulets ever since Emma's father accidentally killed a Barlow, and the fact that Emma's 17-year-old brother, hot-headed Cole, is the father of Melissa's child, has only worsened the gap between them. Believing that Cole will be an unfit husband, Wyatt refuses to let him marry Melissa, an act that propels the young couple to run away. While Emma and Wyatt pursue Melissa and Cole, they come to realize that they still care for each other, but they must first contend with a Barlow cousin who is hunting Cole to exact his own diabolic form of justice. Inevitably, old misconceptions are cleared and both couples acknowledge their love for each other and their new extended families in a saccharine denouement that is likely to satisfy most fans of western romances.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story!, July 23, 2005
This review is from: The Doctor's Homecoming (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
Much more than a mere romance novel, this dramatic saga is about a long-standing feud between two families, its devastating affect on later generations by separating true lovers, and how a baby's birth and the caring work of a woman-doctor overcame the anger/hatred and brought the families to a new understanding and reconciliation.

5.0 out of 5 stars DEFINITELY DIFFERENT -- 16 YEARS????LATER, November 9, 2004

This review is from: The Doctor's Homecoming (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
Emma Sinclair is now a doctor and has returned to the Montana Territory for a visit before taking up her studies at the Philladelphia hospital.

But she has trouble in facing the man who did not love her and whom she had hoped to marry.
Wyatt Barlow, at nineteen had sent Emma, his best friend, away to become a doctor. Now he has a 16 year old daughter that is pregnant by Emma's brother, seventeen year old Cole Sinclair.

There had always been bad blood between the Sinclairs and the Barlows since Emma's father had accidently killed a Barlow woman.

Wyatt was beside himself with worry about his daughter when his ten year old son brought the lady doctor to the ranch.
Emma can't get passed the humiliation of Wyatt not loving her.

Soon Emma bonds with Melissa Barlow and is a great help when she gives birth. Then she must resolve the problem that Wyatt has with Cole. Melissa wants to see the father of her child.
Wyatt refuses to let Cole onto his ranch.

Grandpa turns out to be quite a character, he at first wants to refuse Emma's help.

This is a great story - a great auther [her books are definitely keepers] What a heart-warming, loving story even if it took them 16 years to get it right.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -- look for all of her books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doctor's Homecoming, December 19, 2009
This review is from: The Doctor's Homecoming (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
Emma has just returned home to Montana for a visit after completing her training to become a doctor in Philadelphia. Her homecoming isn't everything she's hoped however. Her younger brother Cole has gotten Melissa, the daughter of Wyatt who was once the love of her life, with child. Wyatt is furious and an old feud betweent he families has resurfaced. Emma is thrown into the middle of things when Melissa goes into early labor and the Doc is out of town buying supplies.

I loved the character of Emma, she was such a strong figure to have persued her love of medacine in a time where women doctors were practically unheard of. She sticks to her beliefs throughout the story and I love how she interact with Wyatt.

Wyatt is a typical pig-headed, stubborn rancher. He knows best so things are going to go how he says they should....until Emma arrives and everything he things gets turned around in a few of their firey arguments.

The story of Emma and Wyatt, Melissa and Cole kept me interested throughout, even though you know with Harlequin it's all going to turn out alright in the end, I found myself wondering how it was going to be pulled off. A great story, but many of the secondary characters had me rolling my eyes because they were so "standard" and unoriginal.
