4.0 out of 5 stars Nice introduction, June 7, 2000

This review is from: Document Image Analysis: An Executive Briefing (Ieee Computer Society Executive Briefing) (Paperback)
I picked this book up because my local bookstores don't have a wide selection of OCR/DIA texts, and I wanted to have a overview of the field before laying out ~$150 per book site unseen for a more comprehensive text. I am quite satisfied; the explanations of standard techniques, sub-problems, and basic algorithms/data structures of document analysis are lucid and succinct. This book should not be purchased as a stand alone reference to gain a deep understanding of algorithms or implement an OCR system, but rather as an extended anotated bibliography.
