5.0 out of 5 stars This is the book!
I have never set up a network before and did not know where to start. I hit the internet and everybook store i could, and thank god i found this book. I now have 16 users with 2 remote users on my network. The network has been running perfectly for 7 months and I did it over the weekend. I cant begin to thank susan plumley for this book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Clearly written for the novice
This book is clearly for the beginner. While the information is mostly accurate, and assembled in a reasonable manner, anyone who has done at least one NT install will find this book of little practical help. The main points covered here are CHECK THE HCL, make sure your hardware is compatible. The author does a pretty good job of explaining groups and domains, but...

i have a lot of experiance with windows NT but i needed a reference to guide me and explain to me what's really going on and this book explained to me the things that i did when i network systems. i recommend that book for everybody before buying any book. This book is about 500 pages, it took me 3.5 hours to finish it, although i always hated reading ! after that book , i am buying Mastering windows NT server 4.0

The main points covered here are CHECK THE HCL, make sure your hardware is compatible. The author does a pretty good job of explaining groups and domains, but don't expect to find any undocumented tricks here. I really thought there would be some discussion about system documentation....as the title suggests, but there is none to be found. If you're new to NT, or thinking about employing it in your organization, this is probably as good a starter book as you'll find, but don't think it's the only reference you'll need.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Reference Book for Your Library!, August 24, 2000

This review is from: Documented NT Server: A Start-to-Finish Network Installation Plan (Paperback)
This was my first attempt setting up an NT server. This book read like a "GOOD" reference manual. There are a few typos, however, they are not such that your comprehension is hindered!

I would recommend this book as a great place to start if you have NEVER built an NT Server from start to finish! The writing style is excellent and almost elementary. There is an over emphasis on verifying everything against the HCL... almost to an extreme; however, I guess it's necessary to prevent a disaster in the process of building your first NT server!

Great job Sue! And Thanks!
