1.0 out of 5 stars Trio of Terror, May 30, 2006

This review is from: Dodge Ball/Bowling/Paintball (Video Game)
Dodge Ball/Bowling/Paintball for the Gameboy Advance seems
like a great deal because it gives you three games for one low price, but there is a hitch and I don't want you to fall for it. Here is the hitch: all three games are terrible and do not warrent a purchase. The dodgeball game pits against the CPU in a simple court. You have three players in your side and the CPU has three players on his. You must hit each players three times before you win so a total of nine times to kick them out of the court. The graphics are weak, the character animations are cheap and the controls are sluggish. It plays very slowly and has a boring feel to it. The paintball game is just as bad, placing your character in a practically barren grassy field, with cheap animations and sound effects. Funny thing about the paintball is that when you get shot or you hit the CPU players you DO NOT see any paint splatter, which is pathetic! Are the gamemakers saying that the paint effect is cannot be handled by the GBA's 32-Bit power? Then finally there is the bowling game, this is the only redeeming game in the package but still falls short in the fun department. The graphics in bowling are clean and the controls are servicable but the game still feels bland and empty. Overall this game is a terrible purchase because you get three junky games. Save your money and purchase something else. I recommend the GBA game called, Super Dodgeball Advance.

Pros:
none

Cons:
-terrible graphics
-terrible animation
-terrible A.I.
-terribly boring
-sluggish controls
-zero fun factor
-zero replay value
-feels like Atari 2600

3.0 out of 5 stars A cross between 16-Bit and 8-Bit, October 31, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: Dodge Ball/Bowling/Paintball (Video Game)
The look of this game reminds me a lot of the stuff that was released for the 16-Bit Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis around the early to mid-ninties. The graphics for this game has that rendered look similar to the fighting game Killer Instinct but of course with a lot fewer colors and lower resolution.

The feel of this game also reminds me a lot of the stuff that came out for the 8-Bit NES and Master System. Nowadays, these type of games are like "mini-games" to earn extra points or food items or whatever in-between the actual game.

The bowling game is not bad at all. The aiming system is easy to get a hang-of. You get the usual "accuracy" and "power" targets. You can also direct the ball with your control-pad right after releasing the ball. You have the usual choices of ball weight and color, along with different "themed" alleys. You can also choose between 1-4 players and participate in tournament play.

The dodgeball and paintball games go downhill quickly. The controls for the dodgeball game won't take that long to master; however, the gameplay is a little loose and sluggish. Aside from surface choice(asphalt or gynasium) and a choice of 7 different players, there are no other options for this game. It just ends once you win or lose a game.

With paintball you get a choice of single or multi-player(you need a link-cable) along with four different colored-teams(red,blue,yellow,green) to choose from. For each team you get to choose from the same four players. There are two game-styles, capture the flag & search and eliminate. Neither styles are that good.

The strength of the bowling game makes up for the sub-par performance of the two other games. The 2-player options also add some competitive drive to these games and drive up the fun factor. If you can find this pack at a discounted price, then I'll recommend it.
