More About the Author

Kit Johnson suffers from a form of Bipolar and Hyperthymesia, and has endured a life where suicidal thoughts, and attempts, have punctuated much of his existence. He has been diagnosed incorrectly at least 10 times by so called experts, many of whom seemed to have less insight than he did.

In this alternative 'self help' story, he takes a semi autobiographical and affectionate look at his condition, which is leavened with much humour. Commendably short in length, reflecting the short attention span that characterises the condition, it is raw at times, excoriating in its honesty, and takes the reader on a journey of pain, joy and possible redemption
Kit Johnson spent much of his life in Human Resources Management where he enjoyed a reputation for exceptional insight into careers and the art of managing people. He spent several years working overseas, and has counselled many senior executives on maximising their potential, and equipping them with the skills to survive in business politics.

He has one daughter and currently lives in London

This book from page one had me in tears...I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard. I myself have Bipolar 1 with Psychotic episodes and ADD. He throws humor in there fairly often, though he is also painfully honest and holds nothing back. A great read for the sufferer or anyone wanting to know more about this quite often devastating illness.
Best of all he offers HOPE!

I have read countless self-help books, stories about living with various psychological disorders, and personal memoirs. Kit Johnson's Dodging Suicide provides a truly original voice that makes this book stand out from the rest.

Not only does this talented author provide an in-depth look at what it's like to live with Bipolar and Hyperthymesia, he does it without the typical woe-is-me attitude that punctuates most books dealing with the sensitive topic of suicide and mental illness. Kit's self-awareness and wonderful sense of humor make his story insightful, inspirational, and wildly entertaining.

Dodging Suicide shines a brilliant light into the dark world of suicidal tendencies, and the author provides a strong argument, that laughter, truly is the best medicine. This is a fantastic book for anyone looking to take the edge off madness and add a little laughter into their lives.

For any one who suffers from or has a loved one who suffers from bipolar disorder this is a must read book. Bipolar disorder is also known as manic-depressive illness. There is a lot of shame and stigma associated with any mental illness, and this book is a light hearted and humorous account of not feeling shame in discussing it. The author interjects his own life experiences, relationships and circumstances about his own struggles with bipolar disorder. Author's humor makes the subject matter given a new perspective, one not ashamed of mental illness. The author is very honest in his details of his own struggles to help other's see the disorder not as a death sentence, but rather as just another medical condition that needs to be understood. I enjoyed reading this humorous account and I only wish the book was longer!!

Kit has described his "illness " in this detailed and personal look at his life and how he reached the point of attempting suicide some years ago when life appeared to hit rock bottom.Kit describes the feelings, moods and behaviours associated with having Bipolar disorder in both personal and intimate detail.
He is searingly honest about the impact it has had on relationships and the choices he has made as well exploring with the reader with painful introspection, as he analyses the" costs" of this illness in terms of his own self esteem.Kit intersperses the book with humour as a way of illustrating his story as well as showcasing the manic humour that can accompany an episode. Kit is a survivor, colorful character, sceptic and much much more.....

Having mental illness isn't easy. Living with someone who has mental illness or bi-polar disorder (or manic depression) isn't easy either. How it is possible to find humor in mental illness? How can we even consider laughing about it?

Kit Johnson proves it is possible to find, embrace and share the humor about mental illness and bi-polar disorder in his book, Dodging Suicide. He also blazes a trail for the rest of us to talk about mental illness, joke about it and make fun of our own problems.

I am biased about the importance using laughter and humor to overcome and transcend life's tough moments. Without laughter as a tool to recover from my own issues, I wouldn't be here.

Kit takes us on an intimate ride inside his life, thoughts and feelings - but, this isn't a ho-hum academic approach to talking about mental illness. Dodging Suicide tackles raw issues like the desire to wanting to die, and presents them in a way where the reader is left laughing and loving Kit for his pure honesty.

"The comic and the tragic lie inseparable close, like light and shadow." - Socrates

Sharing your baggage with the world isn't a task most people are willing to undertake. Not only does Kit have chutzpah for exposing his dark secrets with us, he has the wit and intelligence to weave humor into the work. Being funny in the face of trauma, tragedy and sorrow isn't easy. Kit deserves a high-five, pat on the back, and, a traditionally cooked UK fish fry for his efforts.

At times I found myself challenged staying with Kit's train of thought. But because of his thought process in certain segments, I was able to get a glimpse into the mind of someone with bi-polar disorder.

Kit was going through hell years ago, but he kept going.
