The first time in Dutch!, December 29, 2008
This review is from: Doe Maar Gewoon (Audio CD)
For over 20 years Rene Froger is one of Holland's most popular male singers, often called the Dutch Tom Jones, since his first hit single in 1988 "Winter in America" (Dutch top 40 peak at #5) Froger recorded an album every year which are always highly anticipated by his fans, during the 90's several albums were certified gold before its release, and almost al albums would be certified gold and during the 90's multi platinum. In 1989 Froger recorded his first and until 2007 his only single in his native Dutch, the song was called Alles kan een mens gelukkig maken"(everything can make someone happy) was part of a fund raiser for Africa and became his first and until today his only number 1 single. But one year earlier he had already success with his debut album "Who dares wins" which was certified gold and after the Dutch hit also received a platinum award. At the time Froger was asked by his record company (CNR Records) to record an whole Dutch album, but Froger wanted to return to record in English, and so later in 1989 his follow up album "You're my every thing" was released. A lot of people thought it wouldn't last but in 1990 after signing to a new record label (Dino music) and under new management Froger would rise to ultimate fame in Holland with almost every single reaching the top 10, and every concert tour being sold out. His latest in English recorded album was 2005 Pure Christmas which was certified gold in a week. In 2007 Froger had done it all and finally decided to tour the country with a show completely filled with Dutch covers. The show was well received and so in 2007 Froger decided to record his fist Dutch Album. Some of his fans who did not like Dutch music did not buy it and other people who were never much into English music welcomed Froger first one. If you are familiar with his English albums then this is a surprise because it's more Dutch vocal pop then his international style he sang. But if you like to hear Froger sing his own language then its worth the buy.
