Doesn't Mean Anything is a pop song with a message. Alicia manages to continue to stay in her own lane and write meaningful songs that will stand the test of time. The hook is catchy and makes you want to turn the volume up and sing along. To me that is a mark of a great song. It just feels good. Everytime I hear this song in the midst of what is in heavy roatation on today's radio I am thankful for the breath of fresh air that is Alicia "consistent" keys.

Does Mean Something,

When it has came down Alicia Keys, she has written some really great songs for the past several years, from her hits like No One, Fallin' and Karma, to writing for others like the driven Whitney Houston hit, Million Dollar Bill. But it has been awhile since Alicia Keys has came out with something new. It honestly has been very tough for her to follow-up the success she has had with all the tracks that were singles from As I Am. Yet, she still has the polish with her latest single, the tenderly soulful Doesn't Mean Anything. The song isn't a bad song, but still simple and strong from Alicia to write from her upcoming album. Alicia still has it. Yet, while the song is a good song, it isn't as strong as her earlier hits. Nevertheless, I would still rather listen to Alicia than the overexposed Beyonce' and Rihanna anyday. I hope her album does deliver when it comes out, because it will mean something more.

"Doesn't Mean Anything" is a song reminiscent of the Beatles era. It is a song that begins to mind being on a train. As the speed of the train rolls along so does this song. It has a message that materials things are not important but love is the most important thing in life.
This song hits home for me because my father passed away. When we were packing his clothes and belongings after his death, I realize that his love was the most valuable and important thing in life. I miss his hugs, seeing him and talking to him on a daily basis. This song means everything to me because this song brings back memories of the times together. It is a very touching song and it is Alicia Keys mantra "If I Ain't Got You", "No One" , "Like You'll Never See Me Again" and now "Doesn't Mean Anything". Alicia is a very thoughtful and compassionate musician.

Music doesn't mean anything, without Alicia Keys!,

After coming into the music world with "Fallin'" back in April of 2001, it didn't catch the attention of radio personnel right away because Alicia Keys isn't easy to label on one genre. In 2001, she releases Fallin' and no one knows what do to with it since it's something no one has done a song like this before. Leave it up to Alicia to sing her debut single out in public to grow into the massive single that it became. Keys follows up her debut album with my all-time favorite album, The Diary of Alicia Keys in 2003. The sophomore album didn't produce a #1 single on the Hot 100 Billboard chart, however, we all remember "You Don't Know My Name" and "If I Ain't Got You", not to mention the female fans crazed duet, "My Boo" with Usher, which did reach the top spot on charts. In 2005, Keys releases Unplugged, a "revival" of her songs until then. In 2007, when no one seemed to know whatever happened to Alicia Keys, she puts the world in shock when "No One" hits the airwaves and suddenly, you hear people singing in their cars blasting "No One" on their car speakers. "No One" is also something you wouldn't hear from today's artists; its comes to show how Alicia Keys is so pure with her songs and doesn't pressure herself to write such a song from previous singles. Now here she is again, with "Doesn't Mean Anything" and I have to say, it caught me off guard. This song grew on me so much faster than her other songs did. This song has a wonderful message that has the ability to help many of those who are suffering. Since this single is near perfection, I cant imagine how amazing her upcoming album, "The Element of Freedom" must be. Definetly download this song and buy the physical album on December 15th, cause its worth keeping it because it will be a classic! :D

It's not bad. But besides the cool drums, it's just pleasant background music.,

Because the chorus is repeated so much throughout, it almost makes you want to tear your hair out. But it's not a bad song. It's just repetitive. The verses are OK but nothing too memorable, and the chorus has meaning it's just repeated too much. The saving grace is the kicking drum work that is found throughout. That's cool. Other than that, this song doesn't beat any of Alicia's previous singles (besides "Karma"; I DON'T like that song). Not by a long shot. I did like the intro words of the video though. Alicia talks about how funny it is being in a pretty city, with tons of people and still having the ability to feel lonely. I feel that part deeply. But otherwise, I felt she could have brought the song harder. The only other thing that was great was watching her in the video, with her shiny boots and sexy body. lol 3 stars. edit: Download "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart" instead. |
