expressive and lively, February 11, 2010
This review is from: Dog and Bear: Three to Get Ready (Hardcover)
Seeger, Laura Vaccaro. Dog and Bear: Three to get Ready. Roaring Book Press. 2009.
This book contains three additional stories about two friends, a daschund and a stuffed bear, (Dog and Bear: Two's Company, Roaring Brook Press, 2008) who continue their delightful interactions: a bucket gets stuck on their heads, Bear saves Dog from falling onto the floor, and Bear cleans up Dog's messy room, only then he can't remember where he put Dog's sock monkey. Preschoolers will enjoy the humor in the recognizable predicaments and their solutions. Thick black lines frame each vivid watercolor figure and scene. Vignettes detail more of the action: in two half page pictures, Bear is shown trying to pull the bucket off his head, another series shows the bucket flying through the air, and finally about to land on Dog's head as Bear covers his eyes. Dog is represented as a very expressive and lively character: when Dog jumps on his bed: his pillow and blanket "jump" around as well.
