Sheldon L. Gerstenfeld, V.M.D., has practiced veterinary medicine for twenty years and heads the Chestnut Hill Veterinary Hospital/Bird Clinic in Philadelphia. He is also the author of The Dog Care Book and The Cat Care Book, serves as a contributing editor of Parents magazine, and hosts a radio talk show on pets.

It just struck me as I grabbed my copy of The Dog Care Book that it's the one I've used successfully over nine years of being a dog mom; this is the one I couldn't live without. It's organized very well, according to part of body, then symptoms. It tells you what to do, what might happen and when or whether to go to the vet or not. It's been great for my dogs' physical health and my mental health!

The Dog Care Book is the only book of its type you'll ever need to own. Written in laymen's language, it provides the type of clinical information every dog's family needs to have on hand. It has helped me make key decision about my dog's health since the first edition was printed. Three dogs have lived better lives because of this volume. Whether it's a skin rash or a serious heart ailment, Dr. Gerstenfeld's book provides the right information has helped make important decisions about home treatment or seeking a veterinarian's services. I highly recommend this book to everyone who's planning to have a dog in their family and to those who already do.

This book was a gift for a friend who recently acquired a new dog. I have both the Dog and Cat care books and really find them both most helpful.
