I have two unsocialized and untrained german sheperds that live next door to me. They have been barking and charging the fence at me and my son for the last year. They had completely taken control of my being able to enjoy my yard. Two calls to animal control and talking to their owner did not help. I was at my wits end. I bought the Dazer II and received it within three days. It worked the first time I used it. The dogs immediately turned around and ran to the other side of the yard when I used it. It does not appear to hurt them, but they hate the noise. Probably as much as I hate the noise they make. I have used it on them three times, and my son used it twice. They now associate the noise with me or my son. When they see us in the yard now they will not come near the fence. They just sit quietly and stare. No more barking or charging the fence. I could not be happier! Thank you for enableing me to enjoy my home again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cure for Nuisance Barking, November 15, 2008
By
This review is from: Dog Dazer II Ultrasonic Dog Deterrent (Misc.)
My neighbor's Chihuahua barks nonstop when they are not at home. From 6:30am until sometimes 10pm. The dog sits at the fence, facing my house and barks the piercing small-dog bark that carries quite a distance. I have canceled outdoor activities countless times over the past year. I had quit enjoying my back patio and working in my garden.

I have driven the five miles to Animal Services repeated times and asked them when they are going to serve the neighbor a citation. Another neighbor and I have filled out formal complaint forms twice. I've phoned Animal Services at least twenty times. At times, the barking is so frustrating that I've called the sheriff's department too. A.S. says, "We're going to take care of that," but nothing gets done. I don't know if they're under-funded or what, but I finally had to take matters into my own hands.

I ordered Dog Dazer II even though I was a bit bitter about having to use money from my tight budget to train someone else's dog, but Dog Dazer works! The Dazer emits a noise that annoys the dog; it doesn't hurt the animal. When the dog started barking at me, I aimed it at the dog and pushed the button while saying "No!" It took a few times before the dog realized that every time he barked, he was going to hear that noise. After only two sessions, the dog has stopped barking.

I now spend all morning outside gardening. I am able to sit on my patio undisturbed for the first time in almost a year. The Chihuahua sits in the sun watching me, but the barking has stopped.

2.0 out of 5 stars Inconsistent Results, April 1, 2010

I saw this product in the SkyMall magazine aboard a United Airlines flight about 3.5 years ago and immediately thought of my neighbors three...count em three...Shelties. Shelties are small collies which are known for barking a lot. Her dogs are the bane of the neighborhood. I've thought about using a bazooka or a hand gernade several times, but figured that might get me in a bit of trouble and didn't seem very humane. Plus, I actually like my neighbor...just not her noisy dogs. When I saw the Dazzer II, I thought "great idea...humane...I hate those dogs...how fast can I get this modern marvel?" Three years ago, this was a very new product and cost $75, but I thought it would be worth the investment just to save my sanity for a few hours.

I got the device and used it from a second story window of my house towards the target Sheltie which was about 25 feet away. I was amazed when all three dogs stopped barking and immediately took off. It seemed to scare them. I was in pure delight...for about 3 days. Every time they would start barking, I'd daze em and they would immediately leave the area. After 3 days, the party ended. They became used to the device. Now, when I daze them, they freak out and start barking MORE...A LOT MORE...spinning around and yapping like they are insane.

This device might be good for people with chance encounters with aggressive dogs (like runners or walkers around neighborhoods), but my experience has been it doesn't work as effectively and consistently as advertised. I've tried it on my Boxers and another neighbor's Lab, and they just stare at me.

Personally, I think this is just an electronic dog whistle. It may work for some dogs, but I'd recommend caution and do a little more research on the product. My experience is this may not work for many dogs. I would not recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!, June 9, 2009

Wow! This thing is great. Our neighbor's black lab goes absolutely crazy when anyone visits and walks down the driveway and if they are contractors working on something he WILL NOT let up. The Dazer arrived this morning and as luck would have it, the garage door repairman arrived an hour later. Right away the dog started going nuts so I zapped him with a short burst and he stopped but started up again. I zapped him again and he stopped barking and looked all around with a puzzled look on his face as if to say "what the heck". He started to bark one more time and the 3rd zap stopped him in his tracks and he retreated to the other side of his yard and didn't bark again. My only regret is that I didn't get one of these a long time ago.

Dog with a big mouth next door was absolutely terrified of this product the first few tries. Actually fell down trying to run backward the first time. Then after a week or so he was less bothered. Now it just sends him into a rage of barking after he backs up about 15 or 20 feet from the fence.

This product works great to keep dogs out of your yard or away from you on a walk. It doesn't really hurt the dogs but just makes them uncomfortable enough to stay away.

Product was shipped quickly and arrived in good condition.
Not all dogs will respond to ultrasonics, though.

While we had hoped that the annoying dog next door would race away never to return, that was based solely on wishful day dreaming caused by lack of sleep. It works well. The dog is more perplexed than anything else but, in the meantime, as he's trying to figure out the disturbing noise, he isn't barking.

1.0 out of 5 stars doesn't work, July 4, 2010
This review is from: Dog Dazer II Ultrasonic Dog Deterrent (Misc.)
This product doesn't work. I tried it on my own dog and the neighbours' dogs and there is no response. The little yappy dogs ignore it completely and my own spoodle just cocks his head when he hears the noise. I can recommend the vuvuzelas from South Africa; it shuts up every dog in a one kilometre radius.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Works!, August 2, 2011
This review is from: Dog Dazer II Ultrasonic Dog Deterrent (Misc.)
I just got mine today. It works great on cats. They go scarpering!

I tried it on a small dog at a house I knocked at today in a follow up call (I wash windows for a living). The dog is littler yapper with 2 huge lower canines. I "dazed" him and he stopped barking to try find the sound. Then he tried to bark again, but I "dazed" him again. He went quiet and just sat down in his bed confused. I have yet to try it on a bigger dog.

From all the negative comments I was afraid to buy this item, but I do believe it does what it is supposed to. I think most people expect it to make the dog go running in fear (like the cats), but it doesn't. At least that is my initial assessment.

I feel it does the job it's supposed to. It is not supposed to harm the animal in anyway, just scare and confuse them enough to back off and give you time to leave. the instructions suggest you do not run from any dog, and that you face it without giving it constant eye contact. These are common sense principals and this gadget is not a magic wand.

I also found a clever way to find if the machine is actually working. While the red light does operate, some have questioned whether the device is actually emitting any sound. I held it up to my ear, I could feel a uncomfortable "pressure" in my ear drum when I pressed the button. I could also hear some sort of sound, like the sound an electrical item sometimes makes when it is on standby.

Hope that helps.

I only gave it four because it is not guaranteed. It is an additional security measure, and will give you extra peace of mind, but like most things it is not indestructible. The instruction booklet actually gives me the impression that the silver disk at the front of the machine is a bit sensitive. So dropping it could break it. My advice is to test it each time you go out in the way I described. Also, it does not appear to work on all dogs in the same way, but like I said, this device is not a magic wand.
