A friend in Europe recommended this band to me a few months ago, because he knows that I like XTC and had come across this band that records on Andy Partridge's Ape house records. Despite the odd apparent religious reference in the band's name, they are really excellent and fairly mainstream (ie not Christian rock), playing music in a very similar vein to late XTC. This album doesn't have a bad track on it. Some are stronger than others. For example, Maryfaith Autumn, Disappear, and Absolutely Wrong are all hauntingly memorable and beautiful tracks, but some others, such as Waste of Time aren't as deep lyrically or as textured musically. In any case, I have to confess that this CD has been on the cycle in my car (I drive a lot) ever since I got it. And it is not likely to be cycled out anytime soon. I highly recommend it.

This album has been re-entering the rotation at my house for three years and it has become one of my all-time favorites. It is an amazing collection of artfully crafted pop-bliss that is gorgeous out of the bottle, yet somehow continues to ferment and richen with additional listens. Like many other great albums, it gains some impact from its perfect song sequencing. Every track could be a single, but it flows together perfectly. There's not a weak moment and it's meant to be consumed in a sitting. The songs are well written and airy, featuring lots of beautifully finger-picked guitars, strings, and layered vocals, and everything is perfectly recorded and mastered; I swear you can hear the fabric of the felts hitting the strings on the piano intro on Maryfaith Autumn. The term "pastoral" was tossed at many of the later XTC works, but it's a really a most appropriate descriptive phrase for this album. 'Dog-Eared Moonlight' always somehow strikes me a seasonal work that seems to bouquet when the windows are open. Its worked equally as well for me as a soundtrack for summer drives in the desert, as well as winter nights by the fire. The prior-work, "The Secret Life Of Milk and Honey Band" is also a must-grab, but the greatness that's hinted at it on that collection is realized here.
