Sarah`s Super Review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Dog with Golden Eyes (Paperback)
I like the book The Dog With Golden Eyes.On a scale from 1 to 1o, I would give it a 9.One of the things I like about it is that one of the main characters is a dog. I think many third graders would find this book interesting. It is about a girl who finds a dog and takes care of it.But what she later learns is that the dog is an Arctic Wolf.Read this book to find out what happens.I think the author did an excellent job Describing the setting and charactors. I learned from the book that caring for an animal is a big responsibility. So next time your looking for a good book try The Dog With Golden Eyes!

This review is from: The Dog with Golden Eyes (Paperback)
Animal lovers will love this book. It's great and since I've read it I've been interested in wolves. I love animals an I think it was perfect for my age. My teacher even read it! It was sad that Tokie had to go back and not stay with Cassie, but it's still five stars!

Suspenseful,
By Bibliophile "The Z's North" (North Eastern Illinois USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Dog with Golden Eyes (Paperback)
I read this book to my ten year old son and he and I both enjoyed it very much. He loves animals and studying animal behaviour, so this book satisfied that portion of our interest. As a mother and an avid reader, the book was shallow on character development and the relationship Cassie had with her mother was disturbing as there was no real emotional bonding on her mother's part and her mother each night asked Cassie what she was going to make them for dinner as well as having many other chores while carrying a load of homework. Also, some of the dialog is a bit mature for younger readers like divorce and dating whilst still married, and suggestions that seemed inappropriate for the age this book caters to, etc. I would recommend this book as it does hold your interest and you do learn a bit about wolves and animal behaviour and possible careers in this area.

Stephanie Fountain,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Dog with Golden Eyes (Paperback)
Have you ever loved animals so much that you wanted one, but your parents just would not let you? Well if so, then you should read the story The Dog with Golden Eyes, by Frances Wilbur. This fictional book is about a thirteen year old girl, named Cassie, really wants a dog. Cassie is a shy, lonely, and an immature young girl who would love to have a pet dog. Her mother will not let her get one because they are too wild. Cassie does not think this is right and so she tries to get a dog without her mother knowing. Cassie gets an Artic Wolf instead of a dog. She has trouble because she has to try to save it from a dog catcher. She may loose her best friend for this. This is hard on Cassie because her parents are separated and she is getting and grades in school. She keeps the Artic Wolf outside and she has to try to hide it. I would recommend this book to people who love animals in the wild.

Wonderful!,
This review is from: The Dog with Golden Eyes (Paperback)
I read this book back a few years when I was in 5th grade. I picked up and wanted to read it only because I love animals and the main character had the same name as mine, Cassie. I know, that's a dumb reason to read a book. However, after only reading the first few pages, I automaticly fell in love with it! This book is great for any age, animal lover or not!

A GREAT READING EXPERIENCE~~~~~,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Dog with Golden Eyes (Paperback)
I really liked this book because it consisted of dogs. It was interesting because it had a lot of action. I liked White Dog because he's a wolf. I especially like when he went into Cassie's mother's house and torn up all of the pillows. I would definately recommmend this book to anyone who likes dogs.

A Book That Opened up my Eyes,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Dog with Golden Eyes (Hardcover)
The Dog with Golden Eyes is my favorite book. I am getting a dog on my next birthday and I now know that it will be a big responsibility. I was touched by how Ms. Wilbur described the characters, especially the wolf. It was like I could see it. If I were to put it on a scale of one to ten, I would give it a fifteen! If you ever are in search of a good book, try A DOG WITH GOLDEN EYES!!

JINC's Children's Book Club,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Dog with Golden Eyes (Paperback)
(Only two club members attended May's meeting and each had this to say.) Member 1: This book was boring. When I'm reading a good book, I feel some of the emotions of the character, I get tired, and I finish the book at a slower pace. With this book, though, the main character displayed no strong emotion whatsoever, and I ended up finishing this book within an hour. Very emotional things happened to Cassie: her dad walked out, her friend left her, and her mom had no support, but the author didn't display her emotions about all this. As a result, the story line was very far-fetched and not believable. I guess this is supposed to be realistic fiction, but it was boring because it was far-fetched and didn't express much emotion. Member 2: This book had a horrible story line. Cassie makes the same kind of assumptions over and over again and they turn out wrong. At the beginning, though, I did have some sympathy for her losing everything but her weight. I felt sorry for her when she didn't even have a dog! I didn't like how everything was sad but she cheered up when the dog was around. The book was boring.
