More About the Author

Ann Whitaker lives in the heart of Texas with her journalist husband and their adopted poochon, Jackson. She's been writing in one form or another all her life. A reformed high school and college English teacher, she's published poetry, non-fiction, and short fiction in newspapers, literary journals, and magazines. Her fictional characters are often larger than life and sometimes find themselves in absurd situations.

Steve Goodman, an American folk music singer-songwriter from Chicago, Illinois, once told singer-songwriter David Allan Coe the perfect country and western song had to have certain elements: Mama, trains, trucks, prison, or gettin' drunk. Ann's stories always have a dog.

Her first novel, DOG NANNY, was a finalist in the 2008 Linda Howard Award of Excellence contest and dubbed a "near perfect book" by Coffee Time Romance & More. When not writing, Ann reads, teaches Jackson new tricks, sings, and plays the guitar. Visit her at http://www.annwhitaker.com or at www.facebook.com/AnnWhitaker1

What's a girl to do when her boss decides to go climb a mountain and is closing the business for his absence and she needs the money for an animal shelter she is building? When vet tech Julie Shield's boss, Dr. Arthur arranges for her to live with a family in Waco to train two way out of control standard poodles before a long marriage breaks up, she takes on the challenge!

The family sends private pilot, Nick Worthington, to pick her up not knowing Julie is afraid to fly since her father was killed in a small plane crash. Nick and Julie send off sparks right away and what follows is a charming story of thwarted love and romance before Julie and Nick get together.

Ms. Whitaker has written a great story for both dog lovers and those who are not so fond of dogs. I'm not real fond of poodles, but I fell in love with Noches and Blanco. It was touching to see them turn from large out of control terrors to loving, obedient companions. While Julie trains the poodles and their owner, she also decides to find a husband not trusting her feelings towards Nick. That is also a funny scenerio.

All in all a fun read! According to the author's website, she is working on another humorous mystery Deadline to Desire. Can't wait to read it!

Dog Nanny is one of the best reads I've found in a long time! It has romance, mystery, dog training info and best of all it's laugh out loud funny! Can't wait for the movie! Eva Longoria should play Carmen!

I wanted to like this book. After all, I like dogs and I own a 10 lb. parti-poodle myself, but I just couldn't like these people. I am irritated by heroines who do dumb things, like walk knowingly into danger, ('to dumb to live', in the author's words) and women who, when they are attracted to a man immediately start treating him rudely. I see that in many British books, and I thought it was a style from that country, but here it is in the good old USA. I didn't think Julie would ever have taken a date with the bubba from the police force, and the idea of a rich man working at WalMart didn't work for me. The characters didn't ring true, they were just 'caricatures' instead of real people. For example, the suspense and mystery angle would have been better, IMO, if the 'bad cop' had appeared good at first, surprising the reader when he turned out to be the bad guy. Sorry, but it was just OK for me.

I loved this book! It was a wonderful story!
Loved the dogs. I really like reading books that take me away from
everyday life. I could hardly put this book down once I got into it.
I would really love to read more, I hated for it to end. If you
like mystery, romance and humor, you will like this book!

5 Hearts!!! Animal vet tech Julie Shields takes a temporary job in Waco, TX, while her boss takes a month's vacation. Julie's hired by a wealthy couple, Carmen & Berto, to train their 2 standard poodles, Blanco & Noche, whose uncontrollable antics appear to be threatening their marriage. Nick, the handsome pilot Carmen sends to fly Julie from Abilene to Waco, is a charmer, but Julie feels like she's getting mixed vibes from him, so at Carmen's urging, she joins the local online dating service, determined to find herself a man. Oh boy! The trouble she gets into with the UNeligible bachelors in town!!! Nick is usually coming to her rescue, unless he's on one of his mysterious trips to Mexico. Throw in Carmen & Berto's beautiful young daughter, Babe, & the misunderstandings grow & grow. As Carmen's confidence grows in controlling the dogs, Berto begans to take note, & secretly trains with Julie & the dogs!! When the month is up, Carmen throws a huge party to show off what the dogs have learned.......Story is very, very funny...Laugh out loud funny!!!! The ending is really Great!!! Loved it!

The Dog Nanny was a treat! I enjoyed the accurate reminder of feelings of new love and all the potential that comes with it. The author skillfully conjured up memories of intimate feelings. There were a several vividly hot "scenes"! The sprinkles of Texas life were delightful. What a great poolside read for dog lovers (or non-dog lovers).

Ann Whitaker’s books are always a laugh-out-loud treat, and Dog Nanny is no different. The self-deprecating humor and zany scenes keep the pages turning through a bit of a mystery and a lot of romance. You’ll be chuckling a long time after you finish this book!
