Dog Nanny is one of the best reads I've found in a long time! It has romance, mystery, dog training info and best of all it's laugh out loud funny! Can't wait for the movie! Eva Longoria should play Carmen!

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny entry into the world of humorous romance, April 14, 2010
This review is from: Dog Nanny (Paperback)
What's a girl to do when her boss decides to go climb a mountain and is closing the business for his absence and she needs the money for an animal shelter she is building? When vet tech Julie Shield's boss, Dr. Arthur arranges for her to live with a family in Waco to train two way out of control standard poodles before a long marriage breaks up, she takes on the challenge!

The family sends private pilot, Nick Worthington, to pick her up not knowing Julie is afraid to fly since her father was killed in a small plane crash. Nick and Julie send off sparks right away and what follows is a charming story of thwarted love and romance before Julie and Nick get together.

Ms. Whitaker has written a great story for both dog lovers and those who are not so fond of dogs. I'm not real fond of poodles, but I fell in love with Noches and Blanco. It was touching to see them turn from large out of control terrors to loving, obedient companions. While Julie trains the poodles and their owner, she also decides to find a husband not trusting her feelings towards Nick. That is also a funny scenerio.

All in all a fun read! According to the author's website, she is working on another humorous mystery Deadline to Desire. Can't wait to read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Treat!, June 16, 2009
This review is from: Dog Nanny (Paperback)
The Dog Nanny was a treat! I enjoyed the accurate reminder of feelings of new love and all the potential that comes with it. The author skillfully conjured up memories of intimate feelings. There were a several vividly hot "scenes"! The sprinkles of Texas life were delightful. What a great poolside read for dog lovers (or non-dog lovers).

4.0 out of 5 stars More than a Romance, June 3, 2009
This review is from: Dog Nanny (Paperback)
Ann Whitaker has written a Romance novel with an appealing hero and heroine who, though irresistably drawn to each other, must leap numerous hurdles on their way to happy-ever-after. Typical romance? DOG NANNY is much more than that: mystery and suspense, subtle lessons in dog training, a quiet plea for responsible dog ownership. Yet none of these elements overpowers the romantic plot delivered by a skillful writer who has a special gift for humor. DOG NANNY is a perfect summer read!

4.0 out of 5 stars You know where you're going, but the road is interesting, July 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dog Nanny (Paperback)
I give this 4 stars rather than 5 only because right from the beginning you know exactly where you're going.

This was funny and sweet. With poodles. And of course poodles make everything better!

I read this on Kindle and there weren't any formatting issues that I noticed

5.0 out of 5 stars A funny story that will suck you in, February 16, 2010

This review is from: Dog Nanny (Paperback)
Dog Nanny was pure fun to read. Such well-written humor is rare! Although brimming with authentic pieces of Texana, with settings in Waco and Abilene, Texas, you do not have to be from Texas to find yourself sucked into this story of a poodle-trainer on a serious quest to find a husband. It's an entertaining plot with mystery and romance, but the driving force of this novel is the character Julie Shields herself and her self-deprecating wit. It's the kind of book that makes you laugh aloud even on the last page, causing others around you to ask, "What's so funny?" Very easy to read - loved it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Girly book for dog lovers, October 1, 2009

The main character finds herself in Waco,TX trying to train two "wild" poodles in an elegant mansion. She is looking for a husband so she can claim her trust fund. Because of her own wild imagination she gets entangled in several situations.
The characters are funny, the plot a little shallow- but then it is a romance and you will learn a lot about training dogs, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh Outloud Funny, August 26, 2009
This review is from: Dog Nanny (Paperback)
Dog Nanny is laugh-outloud fun. Julie is a funny, sassy, throughly engaging heroine who's a born-again virgin on a quest to find a nice, stable man. Nick is sexy, mysterious, exciting, and just what Julie needs. Only she doesn't know it at first. As Julie tries to help poodles in need of training, she fights the sexual tension between her and Nick. But that fight is a losing cause, which makes for a very sexy story. The characters are well-written and authentic. I laughed, I cried, and I fell in love with all the characters, Julie, Nick, Carmen, Berto, and especially Noche and Blanco. I'm a cat lover, but after reading Dog Nanny, I wanted to run out an get a dog. I love this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Dog Nanny" is Best of Show!, June 19, 2009
This review is from: Dog Nanny (Paperback)
In "Dog Nanny", Ann Whitaker shares a knowledge of dogs and their needs with a superb blending of romance, intrigue, mystery, excitement, and humor. This leads to one excellent read, appealing not only to the young, but also to those of us who are 'young at heart'! "Dog Nanny" attracts pet lovers and romance lovers - what a beautiful combo!

Not only because it is such a great book but also because Ms. Whitaker has designated parts of the proceeds of the book to benefit a local animal group's needs in her area, our own local animal group is going to feature "Dog Nanny" at our Annual Canine Expo and in turn, the proceeds of the books sold will be donated to our own local animal shelter.

I highly recommend "Dog Nanny" for an adventure you won't forget!
