This is a must-have for dog owners and fanciers alike! I bought this with my birthday money, and the humorous text urged me to snatch it from the shelves. It's a book to read when in the bowels of "Dog Ownwer Despair". If you love or like dogs, this is a book you NEED to have!

Average pet owner to professional trainer - you NEED this book in your library. In fact, you no longer need a library at all...this is the book to reference no matter what your canine question or concern. Easy to read and charming illustrations that offer a plethora of informaton covering any aspect of owning, caring, or training a dog. As a companion dog trainer, "the dog owner's manual" has become the most important book I will require my client's to read. Bravo Dr Brunner and Sam Stall!

Though informative, the real value is in the illustrations and amusing text which has been written in the style of a computer manual. In the section on dog anatomy, nipples are described as preinstalled docking ports for peripherals, noting that "the circuitry of the male model renders these valves inoperative." The book is liberally peppered with gems like these. Another reviewer mentioned that the illustrations are very Ikea and that was spot on--Ikea ought to consider selling this in their pet section. I would not personally use this book to replace a more text-base dog book with photos, but it's ideal as a gift, worth the laughs, and has some interesting facts and essential information.

Great basic book for new owners of dogs. Truly a "how-to", the book walks the new owner step-by-step through choosing a dog type, introducing new pets to various members of the family (human and non-), equipment, training, and many other topics.

The manual is entertaining, from its design (the illustrations look like Ikea did them, but the instructions are clearer) to the mock-tech writing style. The result is an informative, easy to search and use reference book that will be useful to every dog owner for the length of the dog's life.

What a great book! Having a few "models" myself, this book caught my eye and I enjoyed it from cover to cover. I heard "The Cat Owner's Manual" will be following it shortly. If it's anything like this book, I'll be buying a copy for my Mom and her cats to enjoy!

This book is incredibly informative and hillarious at the same time. Talks about the dog as if it's a new car or microwave and not a living thing. Information is given in a way that's easy to understand and entertaining so you might actually read the whole thing. Also got the guide for babies for some new parents I know and they found it quite amusing as well.

I love this book! It's beautifully designed. I bought it because after I got a dog, I finally had an excuse to buy a book in this series. They are spectacular. And, they're really informative and well thought out, too boot!

This is seriously the best book to fill you in on everything you need to know or have for raising a dog. And it's laid out like an instruction manual! A must have for any dog lover or newbe owner!

Someone gave me this book and I was prepared to dislike it after a few paragraphs. The authors have gone all cutesy and talk about selecting your "model", checking the "parts list", performing "basic maintenance" and other computer / machine metaphors. Once I stopped gagging, though, I discovered there's a lot of interesting information. I especially liked the section on how dogs relate to human speech. The quality of the paper is exceptionally high - very thick pages that seem to be highly water resistant (though I didn't test this out, of course).

Forget about buying this book as a dog manual. Buy this book for the illustrations. Second hand copies are going for a song, so do yourself a favor and buy it and their Cat Manualfor your library. All vector based, these illustrations of a variety of breeds are a delight to view. If you are a fan of Charley Harper's work you will love these dogs. As a caricaturist, dog illustrator and photographer facing a creative block, I open one of these books and I not only get inspired the images bring a smile to my face. Ironically I am not taken by their "human" books: toddler and kids. All the pictures look like restroom symbols.
