Wonderful!,
This review is from: Dog Painting: A History of the Dog in Art (Hardcover)
Get a head start on your Christmas shopping, and buy this book for your favorite dog lover! Buy one for yourself, too! Over 525 prints of magnificent art featuring many different breeds. Hounds and terriers predominate, but there are lots of toy and working breeds as well...even two pictures of my breed, the Corgi! William Secord's commentary is wonderful, dealing with the art, the artists, and the breeds. My only complaint is that it's too large to hold...no reading in bed with this book! Of course, any smaller and the artwork would shrink. It's worth the inconvenience. Honestly, I can't say enough good about this book. I love it.

A 'must' for any arts collection,

Dog Painting: A History of the Dog in Art packs in color photos of dog paintings to accompany a history of U.K. and America's 'golden age' of dog paintings. From the dog's role in continental art to the influence of social and political forces in dog portraits, DOG PAINTING offers a survey of a variety of breeds, considers show and working dogs alike, and provides plenty of dog information along with artistic commentary. A 'must' for any arts collection.

This book is an excellent presentation of both dog art and dog history. As a 50 year fan of all things canine I have enjoyed this book. I am also an animal artist so I can admire all the work of other artists from years ago.
A great gift for someone who really likes dogs from Great Britain.

Mr. Secord has done it again. Every page is a masterpiece, truly. A treat for the eyes and the mind. You do not have to be an art aficionado to enjoy and appreciate this book. Or even a dog lover. (But of course that helps!) It is both uplifting and educational. Quite a combination. Costly? Well, it's more than the average book, true. But worth every penny, and then some. Masterpieces never come cheap.
