PreS--A winning quartet of board books. In a style reminiscent of Dav Pilkey's work, Kitamura has created four animal characters, each faced with a decision: where to sleep, what to drink, how to bathe, and what to eat. Resolving these dilemmas requires hilarious experimentation (the cat curling up in the saucepan is a hoot) and myriad facial expressions, from bewilderment to frustration to satisfaction. The straightforward texts are a perfect fit for the illustrations. Youngsters will connect immediately with the simple plot lines and familiar situations. No cutesy, patronizing stuff here--these genuinely funny books assume that toddlers have a sense of humor.

This review is from: Dog is Thirsty (Board book)
My daughter (now 19-months old) absolutely loves this book. I'm not sure why, as I think this book is extremely dull and simple. But the fact is that this is probably one of her top 3 favorite books these days. The pictures are very colorful, and the theme is very simple.

A gem!,

Reader from England, I could not agree more. This book rules! Something about it...I don't know...it's just so funny. I must say while "Cat is Sleepy" is great, the other Kitamura books just don't live up to this classic tale of thirsty woe. Run don't walk to get this book.

better than American Psycho - fact!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dog is Thirsty (Board book)
This is probably the most entertaining book I've read in a long time. The illustrations are beautiful and Dog's expression must be seen to be believed - never has a portrayal of agony and, well, thirst been so vivid. The last 2 pages are a masterpiece of irony. I liked this book best. More than anyone else. More than you. Kitamura's other works are ace too! I read American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis and although very impressive it is not as fun as this, Satoshi Kitamura's relentlessly inspiring meisterwork. Ten out of ten!
