Best Dog Training Book Ever, December 21, 2010
This review is from: Dog Training (Hardcover)
Forget what the other reviews say about animal cruelty. Nothing could be further from the truth.
This is by and large the best dog training manual on the planet, hands down. There is nothing in the book that is cruel whatsoever and I was skeptical when I seen the other reviews myself.
I actually had the opportunity to speak with the one of the author's Lew Burke's associates and these people worked for some well-respected people. They trained their dogs. Lew Burke has never been charged with anything even remotely related to animal cruelty. In fact he made a wonderful living training some of the most intelligent dogs in America.
I once heard Caesar of "The Dog Whisperer" mention in an interview that this was his favorite book when he first got into the dog training business. After having read the book on a few occasions I noticed Caesar uses a lot of the same principles that Lew Burke describes in "Lew Burke's Dog Training."
This book is highly recommended and I will put in public library requests to make sure that all my surrounding libraries integrate the splendid book on their bookshelves for all to read, even if I have to buy several copies and donate them myself.
Highly Recommended!!!!! 5 Stars+ Get this book. You'll have some of the most well-trained dogs in your life after applying these harmless principles.
This is my all-time favorite book and I will borrow it out to friends on any given occasion. Thank you Lew Burke for making this treasure house of dog training that everyone can and should use.

Promoting Animal Cruelty!, May 22, 2004
This review is from: Dog Training (Hardcover)
We adopted a pound puppy twelve years ago. She passed away this week. Our one regret is that we read this abominable book when she was a pup. Thank goodness we saw the damage we were doing to our innocent pet and threw the book in the trash before writing to the publisher. Lew Burke promotes animal cruelty. He suggests using a "training collar" which stabs the dog in the neck when he/she does something "wrong." He tells you to hide a small whip behind your back while training your dog, and to pull it out and smack the dog with it when the dog misbehaves. Mr. Burke also suggests that, for instance, if your puppy chews plants (as many do), that the owner stuff the dog's mouth full of plantlife and then tie the mouth shut and tie the dog up on the shortest leash possible. And that's only the beginning. Anyone out there who cares about any living creature, especially their pet, will avoid this book like the plague!

Good Basic Instructions, January 26, 2009
This review is from: Dog Training (Hardcover)
I bought it, the book I received has a superior cover & binding (so it will last a lifetime), and Mr. Burke's approach is right on target. I've bought several animal training books and videos. This one is certainly on the top tier simply because of the way Mr. Burke educates one on how the dog is probably understanding what the trainer is doing. In other words, if your dog is confused about what you want it to do, it may do nothing at all. But if you can make it clear to the dog what is expected, it will most likely be happy to oblige.
I would suggest it to a friend.
