out of date techniques,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dog Training for Kids (American Kennel Club) (Hardcover)
The latest version of this book is from 1988 and the book uses lots of traditional, but largely out of date corrections that have been replaced in most obedience training circles with postitive training techniques. I have elected to return the book instead of having my niece learn these dog obedience techniques.

Good Book on Dog Training,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Dog Training for Kids (American Kennel Club) (Hardcover)
This book might be old, but it is very helpful. I use it to train all my dogs and some of them are very well behaved. (It even works with stubborn breeds!). DTFK tells about housebreaking, obedience training, tricks, and problem solving. The methods work and the dogs like them. If you get a dog, please buy this book too. Read it cover to cover before you begin with your dog's training, though.

the best dog training book ever written!,
This review is from: Dog Training for Kids (American Kennel Club) (Hardcover)
I have a dog that is fairly stubborn, and at that time I started training I did not know much about training her. I got this book from the library and was thrilled!Me and my dog have been doing great ever since I picked it up!I am happy that you sell this book and think that it is the best book I have ever read!It inspires the mind and gets you really thinking about the way your dog thinks so that you can try to think in unity with the dog.It really helps you to both to get ready for the dog to arive and the supplies and products you will need,to the training your dog needs to take to make him a happy dog. This book is one of the best books i have read yet!

Not worth the money,

Here's the thing - The book is written "cutely", and with kids in mind...HOWEVER, a child in the home should NEVER be the primary dog trainer. It should NEVER teach the dog or puppy, that it (the CHILD) is the ALPHA, or pack leader. This role should always be assumed by an adult.
While the premise is good, there are just too many things that are either flat out wrong, or unsafe for a child to be taking on. If you are looking for a good book for your kids to learn about dogs, this may help, but it is not what I was looking for.
