Book Description

August 15, 2006

Bow WOW! Man’s best friend deserves a home of his own. Build one good enough to prove to your puppy that being in the doghouse can be a wonderful thing. The experts on the Barkitecture series have two dozen fabulous options, plus lots of advice on choosing the best one for your particular dog. They ask the smart questions, so owners can do right by their pet: How large is the animal? Does it stay indoors or out? Does the doghouse need to provide protection from extreme heat, cold, rain, or snow? And the styles are smashing, including a rustic log cabin, exotic pagoda, or adorable tent. Each project appears in color, with meticulous instructions, how-to photos, and tips on customizing the designs.

Matthew Klarich and Jeff Woods are in their second season of designing fun, one-of-a-kind dog houses for DIY Network’s Barkitecture show. They both serve as producers of the show.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Klarich and Woods' handbook-based on Barkitechture, the DIY Network television show they produce-offers designs for ten different doghouses and a handful of other doggie domestication projects, ranging from a canine supply cabinet to a water trough to a miniature window seat (a "Barklounger"). The houses range from the simple, such as a puzzle house built without screws or nails, to the more advanced, such as the opulent-looking "Pagoda Palace" design that graces the cover. In each case, illustrated, relatively easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions are included. The book is augmented with general dog care tips, including general nutrition and training, but more importantly, it includes how to get your dog to use the doghouse you just spent a weekend constructing. The houses themselves vary in design and difficulty, offering something for everyone with a dog in need of a place of its own-be it a cabin, a schoolhouse, a miniature trailer or a replica of your own home.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good ideas but not too practical...useful as a reference, September 10, 2009

I got this book but I ended up not using any of the projects since they were tailored for the peoples need that were in the book. I did use it more like a reference and as inspiration to my own ideas and needs. I would only recommend as a reference and for people that own power tools such as a router, table saw, jigsaw, and neumatic gun with air compressor. Otherwise, I don't feel any of the projects at least the one's where wood is involved can be completed.

But for anyone looking for an idea this book could be used as inspiration with not so much detailed information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making a Home for your Dog, January 15, 2007
This review is from: Doggie Homes (DIY): Barkitecture for Your Best Friend (Paperback)
I haven't seen the show, Barkitecture on DIY, but this book is a find for any dog owner who wants to demonstrate their creativity.
It has instructions to make your own unique dog houses. How about a miniature log cabin for man's best friend? There are 24 houses to choose from, including a pagoda, a pup tent and an air-stream trailer. There are photos and tips on further customizing of the homes.
