Book Description

July 1, 2008
What dog lover wouldn’t be delighted with a magnificent hand-knitted sweater for Fido—and what knitter wouldn’t be proud to create it? Dog sweaters can be made with leftovers from larger projects, and completed in the same time it takes to knit a hat, scarf, or mittens. There are eight basic patterns with variations, plus instructions for sizing up or down, three patterns for hard-to-fit breeds (Pugs, Chihuahuas, Dachshunds), four accessories (a snood, a hat, a kerchief, and a collar), and three home projects (a bed, a blanket, and a toy). Photos of pooches wearing the finished sweaters, plus start-to-finish instructions (including how to measure the dog) ensure a stylish look and a perfect fit.

More About the Author

Corinne Niessner taught herself to knit as a child, and never stopped. After decades of knitting for herself and family, something changed when she adopted her first dog--she had to knit for her. Knitting dog sweaters continued with the dogs that followed, until she got to a point where she imagined every dog she met in something hand knitted.
Corinne maintains an on line business, Lucky Penny Hand Made, where she sells custom dog sweaters. She exhibits her work at craft fairs and art shows.
Corinne's background includes theatrical costume design and photo styling. She lives in Chicago with her dog Piccolo, who provides inspiration for future designs.

Top quality book in every way November 26, 2008
Format:Paperback
The reasons I love this book are:
- very well explained techniques
- author is a perfectionist and teaches tips to make a well constructed and well finished project
- the author clearly had her hands in every phase of the creation of this book and you feel her personality in it everywhere
- worsted weight (much warmer and easier to work with) yarns are used in the project
- there are truly beautiful designs for every level of knitter
- variety in the projects - I am just finishing the sweet little hat and scarf plus there is a bed pouch, collar cover, bandana
- tips on dyeing your own wool using powdered drink mixes adds a nice creative touch

As long as you don't mind learning to use circular needles in a way you may never have tried - and can use pictorial diagrams (I'm still getting my head around the techniques) - you'll be ready to create some beautiful warm sweaters for all your furry kids.

Not happy May 23, 2009
Format:Paperback
I bought this book because I was attracted to the colours. The patterns were a little different and I was very excited. However, when I made my first article I found mistakes in the pattern. Stitches didn't add up to the correct number. Then, after adjusting that, the article did not turn out the size it was supposed to. It was way too small. This is despite having done a tension gauge, that was correct. Very disappointing. I gave the book to someone else and she tried the beanie. Again it turned out so much tinier than it should have.

I feel very disappointed because the colours and patterns look lovely. This is the 2nd dog pattern book I have purchased where the patterns have mistakes.

Great New Patterns July 18, 2008
Format:Paperback
I just got this book and it's wonderful. There are some great new techniques and some really cute new designs. The hat with holes for the ears and an attached scarf to wrap around is so adorable. I can't wait to knit that one. There is also a new snuggle bed pattern that I'm sure my cat will love. If you like pet knits, this one is worth the money for sure.

best dog sweater book ive found
Doggie Knits is the best dog sweater book I've found so far. There are a lot of nice sweater styles to choose from, and the author explains how to make variations of them. Read more

Terrible.
This book is for a very advanced knitter. I would say you would have to be extremely bored to do any of this as well. Provisional cast-ons and bizzaro sort row shaping abound. Read more

Little sweaters for little dogs
This is a great little book. My little Doxi loves her new sweater and is waiting for another one. This was my first sweater and I didn't know they were so easy.

Not for beginners
The photos and designs in this book are really lovely. I consider myself an experienced knitter and have been able to work through the patterns after a full review of the pattern. Read more

Good Book, But NOT Great
Don't get me wrong, I really liked this book, except for the fact that the patterns use one size of needle and yarn for the most part. Read more
