3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Harness, mostly
I've been using this harness for over a month now for my 80 lb. male doberman and it works very well. I like it better than the "no pull" harness I got for my female dobe. By attaching a leash to the top (instead of the front like the no pull harness) there is far less sway in the leash while walking. My dog appears very comfortable in it and it is easy to get on and...

Harnesses are very difficult to buy. Michiko (the dog) seems to finds most harnesses uncomfortable and runs when ever she sees them. I have tried numerous and I think she finds there is to much pressure on her chest. I saw this one and decided to give it a try. She likes it very much. Since the area over the chest on this harness is much larger, the pressure caused by pulling is distributed more evenly. She sits very calmly when putting it on and gets very excited when she sees it because she knows its walk time. Its a snap to put it on and take off. I have a Shiba Inu and the small size fits her perfectly and she looks absolutely adorable it in.

I've been using this harness for over a month now for my 80 lb. male doberman and it works very well. I like it better than the "no pull" harness I got for my female dobe. By attaching a leash to the top (instead of the front like the no pull harness) there is far less sway in the leash while walking. My dog appears very comfortable in it and it is easy to get on and off.

The only complaint I would have is that the front part that is nearest the dog's head it NOT adjustable. It would make a better fit if this opening could be adjusted. The back part is adjustable, however.

UPDATE: After now having two of these harnesses for a few months, I have to update my review. One is performing well as my initial review indicated. However, the other is starting to fall apart. It is ripping apart where the neck loop meets the backbone strap (where the Mutt Gear logo is). My female dobe is using this one and she pulls a lot so that might be part of the reason. Still, I think it should last longer than it has.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite right for smaller, short-necked pekingese, March 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Doggles Over the Head Dog Harness (Misc.)
This didn't work for my smaller pekingese, 8 lbs. I tried two sizes. The x-small had a neck opening that was too small to fit over his head and profuse hair, and the small had neck straps so wide there wasn't enough room for them between the head and shoulder blades. Also, both sizes were too heavy for my 8-lb dog. I was shocked how heavy even the x-small harness is. The buckle is bulky and huge. I'm not sure what type of dog that small would be suited to carry that much weight.

The small size does work for my 15-lb pekingese. He can handle the bulky weight of it and the neck-straps do fit him because he has a visible neck (he's not an AKC standard peke).

These harnesses are very sturdy and look like they will last forever and a day.

P.S. The top of the back says "Mutt Gear"; the letters are about 1.5 inches on the size small. Fyi for those who might take offense to labeling their dog a mutt. ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars doggie harness, March 11, 2010

I sent the small back to exchange for an x-small. I have a more petite jack russell, she weighs about 11 lbs. It is built really well, and looks like it will last a long time. Love the colors!

1.0 out of 5 stars I thought they said this was extra small?, January 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have a chihuahua that is less than 5 pounds. I was trying to find a harness for him and was having a hard time finding one that fit him. Kitten collars were even too big. This one was advertised as extra small (the smallest I could find), but it was still too big for my dog. The part around the chest actually did fit him, but the neck part was so huge, there was no way I could make it work. Not so sure why they would make a harness where the neck and chest are the same size.

4.0 out of 5 stars great! but not totally choke free, January 5, 2011

I really like this harness as an alternative to the premier easy-walk. I much prefer the back leash loop and my dog walks straight, as opposed to kind-of-sideways with the easy walk. The only thing is that the neck doesn't adjust. Our puggle is pretty good walking, but when he sees another dog he goes for it, and sometimes he chokes a little if he pulls. I still really like, and use, this harness and its VERY well made. Much better than the mesh/sport ones you see everywhere! Our 30 lb. pug/beagle has a car crate, but this would work well as a dog car harness if you wanted to use it for that. Its comfy enough for him to keep on around the house if we are in and out all day, unlike other harnesses we've tried. Its also reflective which is great at night, and the brown color is cute!

2.0 out of 5 stars Dog loved it, but it was junk, February 27, 2011

If my dog were reviewing this harness, he'd rate it 5 stars. It fit him loosely so he could slip out, and the leash hook was made out of some sort of pewter metal and broke after a few months. My dog is only 30 pounds and I was shocked when it didn't hold after he ran for a squirrel. The little bone shaped adjuster would slip a lot as well. I think this product has some major design and material problems. For the owners out there, I'd steer clear of this harness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very durable and looks good too., February 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've bought 5 of these harness(Blue). First 2 my boys out grew, and 1 they chewed and broke the clip playing tug of war. No fault of the product, they can be very distructive somtimes for young Cairns. I've tried other harness but none are as durable and didn't pass the Rocky and Bear test. They wear them to the beach,on trails, and to the park. The chest protection is great,my dogs are alittle low to the ground and have no fear. They play fight in them, roll around, chew on them and each other while wearing them, they hold up. The seat belt attachment has worked also, I hook a coupler to it and they are safe and sound in the back seat. They look and fit good.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very cute & seems soft but buckle right behind front leg terrible!, September 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This looked like it would be a snug fitting comfortable harness for our little chiweenie, and as he's an escape artist we really need this over the head type, but I did not realize the buckle is fixed - it cannot rotate. To have this giant buckle right behind his front leg? how could that possibly be comfortable? He'll rub on it whenever he walks, every other harness I have tried has the buckle on the upper torso, out of the way of motion...

I may try altering it with my sewing machine, but I'm not sure I could do much, this is going back...

4.0 out of 5 stars My beagle loves it, August 9, 2010

This review is from: Doggles Over the Head Dog Harness (Misc.)
I have a 9 month beagle and I bought this harness (small) around 3 months back when my beagle was 6 months old My beagle loves this harness and is very happy and comfortable in it. He hated his previous harness and actually managed to slip through it when I left him alone for a few minutes. However with this harness, he seems to be quite comfortable and enjoys running around and playing with it on. Just one minor quibble is that as someone mentioned the neck strap is not adjustable and that makes it a little loose around the neck. However since the harness can be tightened around the chest, all is good. Highly recommended.
