I have experienced several emotions since purchasing this trailer a month ago. I've gone from "omg...this is the best thing ever" to "this thing sucks" to "okay, my dog is happy so I am happy". Overall, I like this trailer quite a bit but I would probably like any decent trailer out there that's big enough for my dog to enjoy the outdoors with me.

For reference, Toby is a 12 year old lab that weighs 70lb, girth 32", body length 28", and 24" from front paws to back paws. My main concern was finding something that was comfortable for him to lie down in so I needed a trailer that was big enough but not too high for him to step into since he has bad hips. I was only able to see in person the Croozer and the Burley at my local REI. The Croozer was way too small and when I pushed on the back end of the floor, the front end flipped up pretty badly. That was a big no! I liked the Burley but one thing that bugged me was how the front couldn't be opened all the way, only the back. I ended up with the Doggyride Novel and am quite happy with it, although I have a nagging feeling I would've been a little happier with the Petego or the Burley because of the larger size. It's hard to say say for sure, though, since I haven't actually used either.

Design
This is a beautifully designed, well-thought out trailer. I loved the aerodynamic style and the beautiful bright color (I got the green). You can tell a lot of thought went into designing this trailer and that the designer/company really cares about dogs. For example, the mesh windows could be closed up with included plastic covers in case it rains, and there is a soft headrest in front of the trailer for your pooch to rest their head on.

I have owned the Novel trailer for over 18 months and have used it extensively to commute with my dog. I have found it to be excellent in quality and workmanship and well worth the investment. I have also used a Burley child trailer with my children and this trailer exceeds the Burley in all aspects. My 85 pound lab fits comfortably inside, the trailer tows well and is balanced. It corners well (even at speeds exceeding, by a wide margin, what is recommended by the manufacturer). The hitch has worked well and is simple to operate. The hubs are well designed and allow you to remove the wheels with the push of a button. And the fold down "kickstand" allows me to disconnect it from the bike and let my dog hang out in it. I would highly recommend this for a dog owner who takes their dog with them...

I was a bike commuter until I got a dog and started bringing him to work with me.....since new corgi puppies don't really do 8 miles a day on pavement. So I bought a bare-bones bike trailer for dogs to see if it would allow me to bike to work with the dog. It did.

Then I realized that the bare-bones trailer was missing some key features that would make me WANT to bike to work with the dog EVERY DAY - like a kickstand, and a well-integrated safety flag, and somewhere to put the dog's kit and my office clothes and my lunch and maybe some groceries should want to pick some up on the way home.

And so I found a buyer for my bare-bones trailer and bought the DoggyRide Novel. It's well-constructed - when you assemble the cabin you have to apply some pressure, but that's because once assembled the cover is tight like a drum. No tools needed - everything locks together with detent pins and quick-releases. The whole thing is sturdy and tight, rolls smoothly, is well-balanced, and easy to use. Oh, and quiet - no obnoxious rattling, though I did put silencers on the zipper pulls.

I also purchased the pad for the interior and the cargo rack, to which I added a collapsible storage crate and a bungee net. No more heavy backpack. An extra hitch also, so that my husband and I can switch off easily on weekend rides.

It's expensive, but as it replaces my car most days, the trailer is on its way to paying for itself in gas money in another couple months. Plus, my corgi now knows how to "saddle up!"

First off, is this a great Dog trailer? Yes, it is.
Would I buy this trailer again? Yes, I would.
I already own the 'small' DoggyRide trailer, and love it, but need the larger trailer to bring both dogs on a ride at the same time.

I am unhappy, and rated the trailer only three stars for the following reasons;

I ordered my DoggyRide trailer on 06/04/13, received it on 06/06/13 - great job Amazon! And wrote this review on 06/08/13

In the picture it shows four small black plastic 'feet', mine did not come with any. So using the trailer as a 'crate' on hardwood flooring is out.

Both in the description (two places), as well as in one review, rain screens for the side windows (that zip in and out) was mentioned, my unit neither came with said covers, nor are there any zippers to zip anything into.

Upgraded features include the following:

Large rear pouch and pocket for storage
Lightweight aluminum alloy frame allows for easier towing
Padded headrest for your dog at the front opening
Large rear pouch and water bottle pocket
Stainless steel spokes and hubs
Reflective striping on front and sides
Removable rain screens for side windows
Quick release wheels
Side supports keep your dog from leaning into rotating wheels
(end quote)

Lastly, if you read the owner's manual that came with my unit, on page 12 it states that the Novel comes standard with the "Kickstand", but the Original does not. I bought the green Novel and I did not get the kickstand. If they decided to charge extra for the kickstand, they should have changed the manual to reflect this.
