Product Description

The Dogit Design Fresh & Clear Replacement Purifying Filter is for use with the Dogit Design Fresh & Clear Large Drinking Fountain. It also helps to reduce bad tastes and odors while absorbing impurities present in tap water.

Customer Reviews

The filter and foam replacement is reasonably priced and last long.
Stacie Nevares
My dogs love their fountain of fresh water and the filters work as they keep the dog hair from clogging it up.
Beverly A Gettling
The filters work ok, but if you changed them each time you clean the fountain it's going to cost allot.

Call me crazy but I honestly thought the foam piece that came with the fountain was a packaging thing! I read the directions, but apparently skipped that page or something (LOL!) and it wasn't until I had to order filter refills that I saw these again and then realized my mistake.
These foamy pieces extend the life of the carbon filters in the water fountain AND seriously cut down on the amount of pet hair that gets into the pump and filter- I can't imagine not using it!
These last quite a long time as long as you're gentle with them when you clean them off, I think I've used the same one for about six months now and it looks as clean and nice as it did when I bought it.
Not to sound gross but I have picked some nasty looking pet hair gobs off of it, thankful that they didn't get a chance to stick to the filter, pump or worse, stay in the water!
Overall, this is, I think, a must for any DogIt owner who wants to preserve the longevity of their pet water fountain, you don't want a burnt out pump because of a hairy, gummed up filter!

For about the cost of (3) of the plastic and charcoal filters, you get about 14 inches of cheap foam in two pieces, both of which are needed at the same time. You need 3 times this much to match the three charcoal filters, and it still would not be a good deal at this price. I am just going to go to a craft store and buy a whole sheet of 1/2 inch foam, and make my own from now on. However, we do love the fountain for our three little dogs.

The dogit charcoal filters are simply a necessary evil. They're such a wonky shape and they get dirty pretty quickly, especially if food gets in the bowl. The other "spongy" filters are a total ripoff. Rather than pay an arm and a leg for the official dogit filters, I bought a giant piece of "cut-to-size" blue air filter for about $6, and it seems to be the exact same thing. The dogit filter is 1/2" wide, and the blue filter is 1" wide, but you can squeeze it in these and it works great.

This is what I bought (didn't see the same product available on amazon) - Filtrete Cut-to-Fit 30-in x 20-in x 1-in Adjustable Air Filter

The filter is almost identical, maybe a little rougher. The absolute closest match to the filter I could find was the shop vac sleeve - http://www.amazon.com/Shop-Vac-90526-Small-Foam-Sleeve/dp/B0001AF162/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1393305084&sr=8-2&keywords=shop+vac+sleeve. But for the amount of filter you get, the price isn't even close.

The filters are great! They can be washed and reused several times and they really extend the longevity of out dogit fountain. That being said, the description makes it sound like you get two full replacements per package, and that is not true. What you actually get is a single set of replacement filters. There are two filters, a large and a small, but you need BOTH to do a full filter replacement (the small one goes underneath the blue slide out part that holds the pump plug in place). It seemed a little misleading to say 2 pack.
That being said, I have 3 dogs, one is a St. Berdard who slobbers A LOT!!!! He also seems to want to eat and drink at exactly the same time and is VERY furry. I get a lot of furry nasty funky slime in their water. I would have to clean out their water dishes about 4 times a day. If I were to do only 3 times, the slime is so thick it makes me gag.
With the Dogit water system, I can give them water and a clean bowl and they water stays clean for a full three days before I have to clean and refill it. In my house, this is like a MIRACLE!
My only bad part is that the replacement filters can get very expensive as I have to replace mine more than average due to the slime issue, and my Lab got ahold of the lid to the top of the dome and chewed it up. I have NO IDEA how she got it off because I barely can and I have THUMBS! Good Grief! Anyhow, now it is chewed and nearly impossible to get off and I worry that it is not clean enough. Also, I have some qualms with the pump.

Calling this a "2 pack" is misleading because that causes you assume you actually get two full replacement packages, and that isn't the case. It contains two pieces of foam, but you use them both in the fountain at the same time (one behind the filter and one under the cord holder). So if you actually want to be able to replace the filters in your fountain, you must buy two of these "2 packs", not just one.

The filters work just fine, so 5 stars for them. But 3 stars for whoever decided to mislead the consumer when titling this item.

Effective, but very overpriced for what you get.

I found this alternative, which is much more economical with a little cutting.
Fluval Foam Filter Block (204/205/306 & 304/305/306)- 2-Pack
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001D02O64/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Each of the pieces is about twice as thick and twice as "tall" as the Dogit foam. That means with a little help from a sharp blade, I can get 8 filters out of a $2.99 package, or about $.38 each. Much more economical than $4.99 each for the OEM version.

Also, being an aquarium filter, as opposed to regular foam or air filters, I feel confident in its ability to filter water.
