5.0 out of 5 stars The Simplest Lessons are the Most Important
There's something for everyone in this heartfelt compilation of lessons learned from living with Moose that author Cotton has memorialized as Moose's legacy to his children and the rest of us. You don't need to be a dog lover to take something valuable away from this book. Successful people know the importance of enthusiasm, perseverance and arriving early. But most of...

1.0 out of 5 stars A half-hearted effort ...
I found this simplistic effort at sentamentalist prose more than a bit trite. There are a myriad of valuable and beneficial books out there for the grieving process when one loses one's pet but the author's vague references to pseudo-heartfelt sentiment left me unconvinced. How often do we need to hear about the digestive habits of one's pet I ask you when it is reduced...

But most of the lessons involve maintaining that all-important focus on what matters most, some keen insights on living life more fully.

Jack Cotton beautifully captures the essence of what people can learn about human relationships from their dogs. A book that may be read on many levels, Cotton provides a touching memorial to the dog that helped him and his family cope with hard times. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has known the unconditional love that a loyal companion can provide.

Our golden retriever, Beau, died some years ago and he is forever with us in spirit. This book is the heartfelt memory of a beloved pet, wonderful tribute to Moose and genuine catharsis for the author. Thank you for sharing this with all of us and I hope anyone that wants to adopt a pet will take the time to read this delightful and meaningful Lessons From Moose.

This was a great short book, which made me recollect all the great memories with dogs in my life since childhood. I would definitely recommend the book to keep in mind the people and animals that are important to us, and how we often get bogged down by stresses that don't affect man's best friend. Glad to support a fellow Cape Codder.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful Story with Wisdom for All Ages, January 27, 2009
A Dog's Guide To Life authored by Jack Cotton, is absolutely a must own! I have given over a dozen copies as gifts to friends, including parents with children, gen x-ers, middle age and older people. The story has such a magnificient theme about one's persective on life told with the metaphore of a sweet (real) dog named Moose. It's message of postive attitude, enthusiasm, perserverance and learning to be fleaxable with the flow of life. A really great book!!

This heart-warming book reflects the author's sensitivity and affection to and from his most loyal friend, Moose. This book is required reading for all ages especially for the would-be reader who has a subliminal love for the concept of pet ownership.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly life lessons....., January 24, 2009
This review is from: A Dog's Guide to Life: Lessons From Moose (Hardcover)
The story of Moose's impact on the family of Jack Cotton is heartfelt. But, it is more than the story of one family. Not only is it the story of one family dog...it is more importantly the story of the simplicity of life that sometimes goes either unnoticed or taken for granted. There are several passages that caused me to pause and reflect on life. I found it easy to read....well illustrated...and filled with lessons for all ages. I purchased the first copy...read it...and then went out and purchased 3 more for my grandchildren. I highly recommend it.
