The best cover band ever!!,
This review is from: Dogs from the Hare That Bit Us (Audio CD)
These guys, without fail, take other people's material and make it more original and "their own" than the original version and artist! (if that even makes any sense)
I'm not a big Donavan fan, but really feel like I should give him a chance after hearing "Epistle to Dippy" covered here. The Dickies version of "Solitary Confinement" is fantastic. Stan Lee, a great guitar player...yes,yes, and most certainly yes

Brilliant, just brilliant,

So, the Dickies finally come out with some of their own favorite tracks - no suprise to see 50% were from British acts. Every one a winner; maybe the Donavon rework was a bit suspect but lets not forget the standard the Dickies set means that any weakness in a song will be exposed. 'Solitary Confinement' is a killer and 'there's a place' shows the Beatles would have been even better just writing songs for the D's. Buy it and you will never regret it.

The Great Dickies Cover-Up of 1998!,
By Harvey J.Satan "Harvey J.Satan" (Among The Garden Gnome,Friar Park) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dogs from the Hare That Bit Us (Audio CD)
Here it is,at last! A C.D. of The Dickies doing what they do best... COVER VERSIONS! For ages,The Dickies, have had to have at least one cover version per album, and now they've released a full c.d. of just covers. ( And this ain't no "Best of..." package,Sherman! ). The basics are this....The Dickies select their favorite tunes, and speed them up,making for some brilliant music. And unlike so many other "punk" bands,The Dickies don't spend half the song using feedback, distorted guitars, and growled lyrics. You can understand what they are saying and playing! ( And it's fun!) The Dickies above all else genuinely love the songs they cover, and have fun playing them! Where else will you find songs by The Wierdos and Donovan residing on the same album? ( Well....there's a Perry Como album, but that's long out of print.). The Beatles finally get Dickie-ized,in a wonderfully loud version of "There's A Place". The Knack are finally made respectable and listenable by the manic cover of "Let Me Out"! We are also treated to brilliant versions of songs by Iron Butterfly,Uriah Heep,The Human Beings, and The Hollies! So whether you're an old school Dickies fan,a new fan,or just someone whom enjoys a good cover version....LAP THIS UP SHRINERS!!
