“Home Alone" is the canine behavior problem that we have treated with greatest success. The original program has been modified over the years, but the idea is still the same - to teach the dog slowly but safely, how to be home alone. The program described is standard. Some owners will be completely successful following the program exactly; others will experience improvements; others may have to adapt the program for their individual dog. The program can also be used to prevent the problem from ever showing up. Start with the exercises described from the very first day the puppy enters your home, so he will grow up as a strong dog, self-confident, with the ability to deal with unexpected situations.

Roger Abrantes, ethologist, cand. Art. DHC, DF, MAPBC, is the author to 15 books published in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, and English. He is currently the scientific director of the Institute of Ethology at the Hong Agriculture School, Denmark.
RA has participated in many TV and radio programs all over the world. He has been adviser for the Danish Police Force, Technologic Institute, the Icelandic Kennel Club and guest lecturer at the Danish Veterinary University. He is in high demand as a speaker at international symposiums in Europe and America. He often guest lectures at several universities, including the University of Illinois in the USA.

I had just gotten a foster dog who couldn't handle being home alone, so when I arrived from work, I found my other dogs, formely fine,and Lilo, howling. I'm sure my neighbors loved that, and it broke my heart because the little collie mix was really lonely and out of his head. So I tried what Abrantes recommended, and he immediatley improved.(I was skeptical and really hated having to remove him from my bed at night). Step by step, working on his program, I now have a foster who is be more independent and self-sufficient, and can handle being,....home alone, while I'm away 6 hours a day at work. thank you Abrantes!
