As has been said every dog has his day but not until the insightful Tim Flach have dogs been captured in extraordinary photos capturing not only our best friends at rest, at work, and at play but also revealing the deep affection we have for them. As Blackwell writes, "There's a bond we have with the dog that goes beyond all other animals." How true!

Tim Flach's photography is a work of art with each photo bringing the viewer close to the subject. It's difficult to describe the intimacy one feels. A Pug with startling blue eyes and endearingly wrinkled face gazes directly into the eyes of the viewer. Impossible not to love him! A proud German Shepherd looks trustingly from the page, a reminder that this breed is often a police or search-and-rescue dog. A honey colored Labrador Retriever pup with his snub nose and silky floppy ears is titled "Say You Love Me." Of course, we do!

Precisely lit and thoughtfully cropped these photos are sheer beauty - a black Lab, Sadie, is shown with the prestigious Dickin Medal around her neck. The Medal was given for "conspicuous gallantry or devotion to duty" while working with the British armed forces. Sadie's ebony coat gleams with the luster of midnight. A Golden Retriever's love of water is expressed in succeeding photos as the happy dog shakes water from his russet coat.

"Information" at the back of the volume provides details about each dog photographed . DOGS is 216 pages of pure pleasure, a volume that will be enjoyed over and over again.

Highly recommended.

- Gail Cooke

I'd seen some photos, but the book, the real McCoy, is something different: so sophisticated, so flawless yet so affectionate.

This is a wonderful book, and highly recommended for any dog lovers in your life. Photographer Tim Flach creates artistic portraits of representatives of different breeds in all their beauty and idiosyncracy. The book itself is handsomely produced and large format. Know someone who watches the Westminster Kennel Club dog show on TV every year? This would make a perfect gift for them.

Tim Flach's photography leaves me speechless. I can't wait for more books to be published. The captures in this book are stunning beautiful majestic and inspiring. As a photographer I am in awe of the body of work compiled in this beautifully bound (heavy) book and as a pet lover I am touched how he captures all creatures great and small. I gave a copy as a gift this year - so pleased with the quality.

This is a great coffee table book. It has a wide variety of dogs, more than you would think and many different poses for each kind. They gave a description for the dogs and told about them. It was very informative. I was glad I purchased it. I had seen this book in Oprah magazine. I would buy it all over again.

Looking to buy a informative, illustrated guide to the world of dogs as a gift. This book is not much for providing a comprehensive look at dog breeds, character and care. The photography is wonderful! A beautiful coffee table book for Dog Lovers. Turned out to be a wonderful gift. I would recommend this book.

How can you look at the cover photograph and not want to dive into this book? I simply HAD to see the rest of the pictures. Many of the photographs on the inside are equally amazing; the Great Dane and Puppy, the gray Afghan Hound, the Spaniel flushing out the pheasants, and the black Poodle to name a few. On the other hand, I was disappointed by the pictures that seem to be taken from underneath the dog after it had been placed on glass table. It's a clever idea that didn't really work for me. I was like a kid at Christmas anticipating the shots of the noble wiener dog and was completely let down by the underbelly view. That said, the book was worth every penny. Tim Flach's photography is incredible, and I suppose he is a victim of his success in that you start to hold each picture to such high standards. It was very humbling to recall my own disasterous attempts at taking pictures of my two dogs!
