4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Let the Teen Rating Scare You....Good for Kids!, August 31, 2004
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dog's Life (Video Game)
This game is classic! I just bought it, and it cracks me up. The humor is a little off color, hence the Teen rating, but it isn't anything worse than cartoons kids would see on Saturday mornings.

The graphics and sounds are good, and somewhat realistic. The game centers around Jake the dog, whom you direct to complete various tasks to collect bones. The jokes will crack adults up, and kids will like the running around as different kids of dogs.

The key to the game is smell-o-vision, where the view switches to first person and now smells are visible as colored clouds. You need to collect different colored clouds to compete in challenges, like tug of war and peeing competitions! Once you win a competition, you can then play as that breed of dog (e.g. chihuahua, mini-doberman, husky).

At $20, this is s a great game for kids and adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, August 31, 2004
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dog's Life (Video Game)
This game is great I just got it and it is very fun. The game is also fun for kids just don't listen to the teen rating. The game is very funny and the levels are huge. The game is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. There are 3 areas with levels. I'm not sure how many levels there are in an area but there is like 40 levels total. The main thing you do is collect bones. You get to interact with people and sometimes do something for them like finding something for them or doing tricks for them, you also get bones for doing something for them. You can also enter smellovision mode that is first person and you collect different color smells that look like clouds. When you collect enough of the same color smell you get to compete with a dog like peeing contests or races etc. Sometimes you have to compete with the dog more than one time but if you complete one challenge with the dog you can control it and do things that Jake can't do. You see Jake's girlfreind got kidnapped and now he has to save her. When you collect enough bones in the area you get transported to another area. You can also do tricks like poop, fart, pee, sit etc. Oh and sometimes when you collect enough smells you get a bone. The cutscenes have really good graphics and so does the game, the dogs look realistic, but the graphics aren't the best but still good. I recommend everyone to get this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Tough Being a Dog!, July 29, 2004
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dog's Life (Video Game)
Alright, to get started, many of you people out there have probably never heard of this game before. Well, that's probably because of the lack of coverage it's getting. Personally, I think this game is pretty good (not the best but far from the worst).

You play as a dog who's friend has been dognapped and it's up to you to find him. You travel through around 40 different levels each getting progrssivly harder as you go. Along the way you can collect bones for diffent items to aid you on your quest. In total, I think, there are 150 bones to collect. You can also interact with many of the diffent townspeople you meet over the different areas. There is also a feature called smell-o-vision that puts you into a first person view mode. In this mode, you "smell" different scents that are displayed as different colors to find hidden items. You can also perform different dog tricks such as lay down, sit, shacke, and the more imature of moves which i will not mention but let's just say you can use these moves to mark teritory (if you know what i mean).

The presentation of Dog's Life (and by that i mean graphics) is nothing spectacular but they are good none the less. The fur on the dog moves with the different motions that you make him do. The textures are simple and look pretty good but again it's nothing too exciting.

This game is fun but a little too easy and sort of short depending on your level of skill at video games. For instance i'm sort of a hardcore gamer and have played through this game in a couple of hours (maybe 2) but for someone with less skill it will take a little longer, and even though this game seems like it is advertised to the younger crowd, the older audience will get a kick out of it as well. It's no huge challenge but it is a good, fun, game to play.

Overall, i think Dog's Life deserves an 8 out of 10 for it's gameplay and fun factor but not for its actuall itensity. For people that want a masivly large challenge, look elsewhere, but for people that want to sit down and play something for a couple of hours, Dog's Life will certainly keep you entertained.
