As someone who has never owned a dog this book answered all my questions and more. (I've been a cat person for over 30 years, but am now getting a dog.) It is well illustrated, authoritatively written and full of hints to make your dogs life (and yours) a happy and healthy one. I borrowed it from the local library an am now going to buy a copy.

I am not sorry one bit. I absolutely love the book. It is the best book anyone that has a dog or thinking of getting one could get. I am so pleased. And you will be to. I have A German Shepherd Puppy And now I can care for her better than before I got the book.

I love dogs but don't own one yet! But, this book gave me ALL the information I need to buy, care for and own a dog. You don't need to look anywhere else if you are looking for a Tell-All Book! EXCELLENT Illustrations!

We loved this book. Well researched and written. Very readable. A great guide for anyone looking to get a dog or for someone who wants to know more about caring for a dog you already have. I mean, really, aren't we all stewards of the health of our dog. We act on their behalf.

For the past month, I've been up to my elbows in a variety of dog manuals trying to learn the ins and outs of choosing and owning a dog. All of them have been pretty good, but I have to say that this one is by far the best of the lot.

Not only is it lavishly illustrated and written in a very laid back, easygoing style that makes it accessible to anyone from age 9 to 90, it's comprehensive to the point of being encyclopedic. This book covers it all, from the temperament of 50 popular dog breeds and their suitability for city or country living, from common behavioral problems (such as barking, chewing, and anxiety). So in that regard it truly is the bible of dog manuals. That's not to say that it's not the only book worth having or that there aren't other good books for the first time owner, but that it's the perfect primer, in that it introduces you to all the most important things you need to know before picking and choosing a dog.

I can't recommend it highly enough.

If you have a Dog or a Puppy, this is the BEST book to get. It has everything from selecting your puppy, training, caring, and nutrition for puppies and dogs to problem solving, first aid, health and caring for older dogs. It includes everything you'll need to know about your dog and bonding with it, in friendly terms for adults and children. It also includes detailed descriptions of the top 50 dogs. On almost every page it has a little thing for owners to think about. These include how they train movie dogs, if your dog needs braces, why dogs chew shoes and MANY more! I'm amazed so much can be in one book! A must for any dog owner!
