I asked my vet about the dried chicken products for pets that come from China. Specifically, I asked if these products could be from the millions of chickens they have had to kill due to avian flu. He said that not only could they very well be from those chickens, but that chickens from China used in pet foods contain an excess of lead. There are no regulations screening imports of chicken for pet food. I have yet to find a dried chicken strip for dogs that wasn't from China.

I have to say with regret that I no longer purchase these treats. My little maltese was obsessed with these chicken strips but now I'm too nervous about purchasing any edible pet products from China. They now carry these in my local grocery store and I am always slightly tempted to pick up another pack for the little ones.

My precious Maltese, Dizzi, has always been an extremely picky eater. No canned or dry food for her! She doesn't even like any of the treats that are available commercially in the grocery stores. A friend who also has a Maltese told me about Dogswell Treats, and gave me one for Dizzi to try. To my amazement Dizzi devoured it and was looking for more. The thing that I like most about Dogswell Treats is that they are all natural and contain no preservatives. Because they are dehydrated and sealed in resealable air tight packages they are easily stored in the pantry for several weeks ~ if they are not eaten before then.

My dogs love this product. Since I buy the chicken strips on a regular basis I had my vet check for lead in their system. I would want more info before I stop buying this chicken because my dogs love it. I am going to have my dogs check in 6 months if no lead no worries.

I tried so many treats for my two dogs and none of them smell as good and fragrant as Dogswell products. Many other products out there claims they are made of natural chicken breast but none of them are so well made - not too hard for my small dog to chew and bite. I always give my dogs this treat everytime we finish taking a walk and they all looking forward to it. My dogs love all kinds of flavors.

Apparently, these are the same treats made in China that were recalled by Wal-Mart. They made my dog violently ill and it cost me $400 in vet bills. Thank God, he is going to be OK.
