I've used Happy Hips and Vitality for years and there's no denying how effective the Dogswell treats are. The problem is the fact that there are constantly problems with their products because all their treats are made in China. It's a little odd because their food is made in the US. At first, it wasn't really an issue because the punishment for mistakes is severe in China so the issues were always dealt with. Problems with the chicken etc. were handled and people thought everything was fine. I work at a dog store so I learn things that not everybody will necessarily know, although I imagine everybody has access to the information if they look for it. The main thing I learned about all the Dogswell treats is that they treat the meat with quite a bit of radiation. The FDA has guidelines for the limits on how much radiation they can detect but it's hard to figure out how they handle that sort of thing with dog treats. I know that the Dogswell treats have been found to have something like double the amount allowed for human food. So far, my dog hasn't seemed to have any problems but my first dog died of cancer and I'm not entirely sure if this might have contributed since aside from the cancer she basically never had any health problems during her life.

I've been looking at other products, especially for joint products, and haven't really found any that have the same dosage that the Happy Hips contains. Most of the other treats are half or less, which would be fine except for the fact that I have to give my dog a significant amount every day so it's nice to have the higher dosage. The extra expense for the other products wouldn't be such a big deal for me. My dog is definitely worth whatever I have to spend.

Our dog, an 11 year old lab mix, has struggled with arthritis and issues in his hips. Our vet suggested a product like this and we have tried several favors now of the Happy Hips brand.

I can certainly say he loves these -- as another reviewer mentioned, they're now an expected part of the morning routine and the look of betrayal should we run out ... Well, we don't run out often.

The change in his mobility was gradual, but noticeable, it was more noticeable after we stopped giving him the strips for about two weeks after our first batch ran out. Suddenly, he was struggling to get up the stairs again, and the sudden decline was shocking. We checked with our vet who said this was a common reaction to,supplements like these, after a day or two of the strips again he was back to a normal, active, happy dog.

We've used these for about 3 years now and never noticed any issues with quality or strange smells. Our dog reports he likes the lamb and chicken, but the duck is by far his favorite.

After discovering that our dog had arthritis in two legs and spinal disc degeneration, we took her to a veterinary specialist who closely examined our dog's food for irritants and inflammation triggers. These treats were one of the few things the vet did not disapprove of.

Apparently chicken causes a number of physical and behavioral problems in canines, but duck is okay. What's even better about Happy Hips is that they contain glucosamine, which is beneficial to animals' joints. However, the amount of it is minimal so if your dog has arthritic issues, you should invest in some sort of glucosamine supplement to mix in your dog's food.

These treats are not part of the recent recall, having an expiration date beyond January 2015, however, they have been making my dog sick since she has taken them. She has been vomiting, has diarrhea, and showing general malaise. Once I stopped feeding them to her, she recovered. I do not trust any pet product made in China anymore. They may be not be under an official recall, but given all the FDA warnings over the past few years...which I wish I had read before purchasing, I will never feed a Dogswell product to my pets again.

A high value treat in place of a cornstarch bone. Better for the dogs and the glucosamine is great for their joints. Our vet verified they are good for the dogs. Much less expensive than the pet stores charge which is an additional benefit. Fast shipping as well.

It is very hard to find the MADE IN CHINA part on the package. I used to feed "Happy Hips" treats to my dog but stopped because they started making her sick. Switch to a made in US brand, like konachips.com or something.....your pet will thank you.

These are distributed in US, but made in China. A portion of these were recalled due to trace amounts of antibiotics. The ones I purchased 10/2013 were not affected, but still concerned over all the issues with treats out of China. Unfortunate as the dogs love them and they have great ingredients. Will not be purchasing again.

I am reposting this review from almost two years ago because it does not show up anymore.... There are multiple links that are the same product, just different size packaging.

Anyway... as long as these are still made in China. I will keep this review up.

My Shih Tzu loved these and I have been giving him these duck treats off and on for the past two years with no obvious problem even though they are made in China. Ordinarily I would not give my dog anything made in China, but I could not find any duck treats made in the USA. Well, recently I purchased a large package of these at a Pets Warehouse store. I would wake up and find throw up and diarrhea in the house seemingly every time I gave him a duck treat the day before. I didn't want to believe it. I thought perhaps his water bowl was slimy and cleaned it. All was well. I gave him another duck treat a few days later and he got sick again several hours later. Well, I stopped giving him Dogswell Happy Hips Duck treats and he has been fine since then.

So, I don't know if it's just a bad batch of treats or if he somehow became sensitive to these treats or if they are contaminated with something. Not going to take any more chances with this brand.

There are many good treats now made in the USA.
