I felt terrible for my poor dog. She was constantly licking and I could tell that she was really itchy. I had tried to make her food from scratch. We tried limited ingredient foods. Just about anything that we could think of. Then one day I went to my local pet store and something in my head clicked. Carbs turn into sugars in the body, and yeast LOVES sugars. I had been feeding her yeast the entire time and didn't even think about it. She had already been on grain free foods for some time, but I asked the lady at the store if they had any that were both grain free AND starch free. She pointed me to the Nutrisca.
This wasn't easy. Fighting yeast is a BATTLE, especially when it's in an area where the dog can lick a lot and keep it moist. I knew that soaking her feet in the apple cider vinegar solution worked a little bit, so I continued that. I remained vigilant when it came to watching her as much as I could and making sure that she didn't lick, or that he feet remained dry. Every time she came in from outside I rinsed her feet and dried them thoroughly. They were so raw and red that I know that it was unpleasant for her, but within a couple of weeks I saw a HUGE difference. She wasn't trying to lick near as much. Her feet were beginning to heal and she was finally allowing me to put some cream on the pads of her feet to help sooth them.Read more ›
I have a blue and white pit bull (Kaine) who has had skin problems/rashes and ear infections since he was a puppy. He's almost 3 years old, we have always fed him grain-free knowing that blue dogs are prone to allergies. A little less than one year ago, his allergies exponentially increased, and we brought him to the vet for help. She gave us a steroid, and told us to give benadryl. Poor pooch still has allergies, but somewhere in the mix, we decided to switch his regular grain-free yums to Nutrisca Salmon and Chickpea, and his allergies overall got much better. We always feed a fish(salmon)-blend food because fish do not naturally eat much grain, whereas the other blends (chicken, etc.) naturally eat grain- so although the food may be grain free- the animal product contained in the food may not be.
We've never had a problem with him wanting to eat any food, so I cannot really comment on that. However, if your dog is having that issue make sure you're picking up food after 15 minutes and not "over-treating" or over feeding.
The kibble is smaller than most dry food I've seen, but Kaine is an 85 lb pit bull and he has no problem eating those tiny pieces.
Aside from allergies getting better, we have also noticed that Kaine's skin and fur is so much softer since we switched.
Upon reading through the ingredients, you will notice that the food has little "fillers" and the primary ingredients are of high quality.
Although overall grain-free foods are more expensive, the price of Nutrisca compares to other grain-free foods.Read more ›
That's important, because Penny works hard doing important work. She is a Cockapoo; her looks lean toward the Cocker side (unusual for Cockapoos; they generally lean toward the Miniature Poodle side). But. she has the Miniature Poodle smarts! Within three days of coming to her forever home with me, she began communicating "something" I had to figure out. It took me several weeks to "get it" -- she knew that I have a severe inner ear condition called Meniere's Disease, which causes disabling vertigo, nausea and vomiting. It has disabled me from the workforce and, before Penny came along, it had caused me to hole myself up at home because I was afraid to go out walking or with the car, not knowing if an episode would come on. But by the sixth week of living with me, Penny made it clear that she could give me a 2- to 2-1/2-hour warning that a Meniere's episode was coming on! Since she "taught" me that she could do this, she has never been wrong and she has never missed an episode -- and I have a lot of episodes! That's one smart cookie and one hard-working Cockapoo. She deserves Nutrisca Salmon and Chickpea to keep her allergies at bay as much as possible. Penny likes it, so Penny will get it. Thanks, Dogswell, for Nutrisca Salmon and Chickpea.
