5.0 out of 5 stars It Works
I tried two different brands and this one works. One of our dogs was the worst barker that we had ever had and just one day wearing the Dogtra Collar and he was silenced. We still have to use a dummy collar but he doesn't bark anymore. The neighbors now love us. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dogtra great no-bark collar!, January 30, 2010

This dog collar is an excellent choice when you have a dog that just doesn't get it that barking is bad and when you say quiet it means for more than 5 seconds! It's a great collar at a great price:)

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Results! But...., August 14, 2010

This review is from: Dogtra YS500 Water Proof No Bark Collar (Sports)
Purchased this collar as a last ditch effort when facing eviction or "get rid of the damn dog!"... I was nervous at first because the first couple settings didn't work (he's a beast!!) but now we've managed to find one that works on my high drive, high energy GSD, who even after 2 hours of exercise per day AND schutzund class 3 days a week was STILL barking at the neighbors. It absolutely saved us and nothing else had worked previously, citronella collars, countless other pet store brand bark collars, behavioral therapy, positive reinforcement, etc etc.

Gave it four stars only because at just after 30 days (go figure) of using it, the collar malfunctioned and wouldn't hold a full battery charge and smarty pants realized that after a while it would die and he could "talk" to the neighbors. It seemed that I had gotten a lemon, but considering it worked when absolutely nothing else would, that's even ok! Dogtra has been great and offered to fix or replace it for me, so I'm ordering a second to use in the meantime and have as backup.

Highly recommend for anyone with a stubborn or high energy dog. For those who are concerned, he doesn't wear it when we are at home and will alert us (with a proper, healthy bark) if a stranger enters the yard.

Few tips: Take the time to use it and learn what works for your dog - it make be a bit of trial and error but with patience I'm confident it will work out! All it takes is reading the instructions and knowing your pup. Please don't leave it on your dog 24-7, it doesn't replace time spent exercising or just hanging out with your dog, and might irritate their neck! Last, make sure it is tight enough that the prongs make contact, for dogs who have such thick coats (like GSD's, Husky's etc), if it isn't working, it may not be tight enough.

Good luck! (and thanks again Dogtra people!)

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs charging Often, April 1, 2010

This collar works but it needs to be charged more often than once a week as per instructions. Also seems to shift sometimes even though it is as tight as I can fasten it without choking my dog. I use the third setting and she still barks but just not as loudly, smart dog has figured out what sets it off. I am a dog trainer and do not usually recommend bark collars but my dog has a "game" where she runs back and forth and barks at the neighbors dog on the other side of a block wall and has injured herself in her zeal. Before the neighbors decided to get a dog that they leave out pretty much all of the time I had her trained to bark and run inside to her kennel to get a treat. She would bark once or twice at whatever noise she heard and come right back in, surprisingly she never faked a bark to just get a treat. I still use this type of positive reinforcement because just using a bark collar without it can cause a negative change to a dogs personality, especially if the bark collar is set too high or over used.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty, March 2, 2011

What a wonderful thing, no more barking dog! I previously had another brand collar which took batteries, which I constantly had to replace. No more of that either, since this collar has rechargeable batteries. This collar is heavy duty compared to the other collar I was using. It seems a little heavy for my dog, but it works great! If you are concerned about the price, I would just bite the bullet and just buy this if your dog is driving you crazy with obsessive barking like mine was. Good Luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars ****Update**** Fits our Great Danes, but . . ., August 6, 2010

I had no experience with bark collars, but we felt we needed to do something to preserve the peace for our neighbors. This collar was described as fitting "large breeds", but there was no description of the collar size. This concerned me when placing my order - since I have two very large Great Danes, I was worried the bark collar would not fit. I gambled anyway, because I trust Amazon should I need to make a return. Good news! The collar fit our 140 lbs., 3 year old Great Dane with room to spare. It also fit our 100 lbs., 7 month old Great Dane with plenty of rooom to grow. Even better news! The collars work for both dogs. I've set the dial on 2-1/2 out of 10 and that seems to be effective. It has only been three days, but the dogs seem much quieter and seem to have adjusted just fine. They have learned to control their impulse to bark and seem calmer. We only use the collars when we are away from home at work and remove them as soon as we get home. I'm not sure I'd want to use them for extended period of time.

*****UPDATE***** We've used the bark collars for several months now. Overall, they still work with moderate effect. We have had to increase the dial setting to the range of 4 to 5 to maintain effect. We've also found it is important to place the collars on snuggly and high on the neck to have the most effect. HOWEVER, our younger great dane has learned how to quickly REMOVE the collar from his kennel mate. Then the collar can be chewed on. If only our other dog would recipricate for the enterprising younger guy. At this point, we have replaced the collar strap once, but the collar is still removed easily by the younger, more energetic dog. (Dogtra does have readily available parts on their website.) We are currently trying to figure out an easy way to secure the strap while making it easy for humans to remove.

5.0 out of 5 stars works for my stubborn dog!, July 16, 2009
I purchased this bark collar for my 7 month old red bone coon hound and he is very stubborn, but it works. The first three settings were not strong enough for him to get the picture of not to bark but on 4 it was just right he only barked for a few days and now he dosen't even bark at other dogs without the collar on. I have to put it back on every once in awhile to remind him as he is still a puppy, but it has been a blessing. I have had it for about two weeks and haven't needed to charge it yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Bark Collar Really Works!, November 8, 2010
This review is from: Dogtra YS500 Water Proof No Bark Collar (Sports)
I have tried many of the normal training methods to get my 75-pound mixed breed shelter dog to stop barking and I finally got the Dogtra no-bark collar as a last resort. I had resisted getting this kind of collar for years; I thought it was cruel and possibly would turn my dog against me. But after a few trial runs with the lowest settings, it worked like a charm. My husband and I will hug each other occassionally and this just upsets Mickey into a barking frenzy. We tried the collar and found it deters her completely. She will start to growl and the little vibration must give her the cue to not bark - or she will start to bark and she gets the low-powered zap which quiets her almost immediately. It has gotten to the point now that if she starts to bark I will hold the collar up and she shuts up. I do not recommend leaving it on any longer than necessary and use the lowest setting possible to accomplish the objective. Don't get me wrong, Mickey still barks and has her playful time - it's just nice to have quiet times with her, too. There are times when barking is the natural thing to do and we don't fault her for that. She is, after all, a dog!!!

Great product! Fast shipping and easy to use. Only thing is, if it's not on my dog, he knows he can let loose and be as loud as he wants! But while it's on, it works great without hurting him!

Shock collar takes a bit long to charge for use. Stops working after a day or so of use, not the sellers fault. Item was shipped without delay and overall does the job, 10/10!
