5.0 out of 5 stars should be subtitled "With Freddie Hubbard"
Full of bounce, energy and infectious melody lines, this is my favorite Gordon album. What separates this session from the justifiably popular "Go" and "Our Man in Paris" is the pairing with trumpeter Hubbard. The two sound so good together, it's a pity that this was there only recording date. Although this current release is not a Rudy Van Gelder...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Ballads
At first listening. The first song is a disapointment. As the CD continues the tracks become easier to listen to. Like a glass of wine after it gets to breath, the tracks become more pallatable. Ballads is still my favorite!

Although this current release is not a Rudy Van Gelder remaster, it sounds great and is essential for fans of either Hubbard or Gordon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply wonderful, August 6, 2001

Each of Dexter Gordon's Blue Note sessions is magic in their own right. This date, which also features Freddie Hubbard on trumpet and Horace Parlan on piano, deserves special mention. "I Was Doing All Right" is a swinging, singing, happy and absolutely infectious medium tempo number that exudes joy. "You've Changed" is one of Gordon's most enduring ballad performances. And "Society Red" is one of those classic nocturnal, minor-key Blue Note slow struts that captures the distinctive sound and the attitude of that era.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Heaven, August 21, 2004
This review is from: Doin All Right (Audio CD)
This is no doubt a 5 Star CD! Not only is the title track excellent, but on Society Red, Dexter gives chorus after chorus of blissful blues. The man just talks to you. Every line is a great riff. I could spend all day listening to this one!

are my favorite Gordon Blue Note records. Even though Go! gets more attention, these two recordings are simply Gordon at his swinging best. Infectious to say the least!
