Practical how to overcome procrastination,
By Douglas Setter (Vancouver, BC, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Doing It Now (Mass Market Paperback)
Like the course by the same name, this book is so simple to follow. Unlike some procrastination books that I have read, Doing It Now gets to the heart of the problem and offers solutions. For instance, much of procrastination is fear of failure, fear of success and poor self-worth. The book points out that most important, life-changing tasks are like bitter medicine. Basically, you have to do them. I liked the different procrastination-busting techniques like the salami technique (break the big project task down into small bite-sized tasks), Journaling (write down your progress), the 5-minute rule (do anything for 5 minutes to warm you up), the unpopular task first/last, small rewards (my favorite) and self analysis. I have used the techniques to get me through university. (Which was quite a task for a guy in his 40's who got Cs in high school.) I even used the techniques to finish reading behaviorism text books and boring academic books on over-coming procrastination. The book is not a free ride. It still takes a bit of work, but it does get you on the right track. Highly recommended.Doug Setter, Bsc. Author of Stomach Flattening and One Less Victim: A Prevention Guide

A KEY COMPONENT IN TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE,
By A Customer
This review is from: Doing It Now (Mass Market Paperback)
With this book, Edwin Bliss has gotten to the heart of understanding and having victory over procrastination. I see it as a key factor in one taking control over his own life. The importance of this topic cannot be underestimated, for without focussed and consistent action towards one's goal and dreams, they will not come true. Moreover, Bliss has crafted an extremely practical set of tools- ones that anyone can immediately put to use and begin reaping benefits. Two practical books to read in conjuction with this one are David Schwartz's "The Magic of Thinking Big", and Anthony Robbin's "Awaken the Giant Within". Don't be put off by Robin's infomercial approach (you don't have to spend $100's on his programs to tap his brain). Robbins really has captured a great number of priceless nuggets. Jose Silva's work on mind control has also made some highly valuable contributions, particularly in his triad foundation of understanding and generating desire, belief and expectation, even without all his work at the subconcious level. These all build to make one powerful program for positive change.

This book is fantastic for those looking to get a healthy dose of reality! The author presents the material in a Q&A fashion & really makes it easy to read, but very blunt @ times about the ideas behind procrastination & the 'disease' that it is! Highly reccomend to anyone looking to get out of the old mentality & wanting to have more in life.
