Great business audio CD
I usually find business books very boring. If it's written by a business leader, these books tend to be a bit self-congradulatory, and don't really explain how to do something. If written by an academic, these tend to be very Aristotelian--that is, categorize well, but don't don't explain the pressures involved when something needs to get done. If written by a business...

This review is from: Doing What Matters: How to Get Results That Make a Difference - The Revolutionary Old-Fashioned Approach (Audio CD)
Unless you're looking to do an in-depth case study of Nabisco or Gillette, I recommend skipping this book. I had the unabridged audio version and was not impressed. Some of the points were quite valid - the importance of action, effective communication, various theories on marketing and management. Most of the book, however, was given to recounting the author's days at Nabisco and Gillette. The same incidents, issues and ideas were covered ad nauseum across multiple chapters. The pace was fairly slow for a management book, and the reader did little to bring life to the pages. If you're looking for management theory or practical application, check out anything by John Maxwell - no matter which book you pick up, you'll be further ahead than reading this one.

When I tried the audio here, I was truly surprised. I learned a lot. The author explains his business management concepts very well. These are practical and theoritical. I have to admit I haven't tried too many business audios, but have read many business books. This is probably the best business course I've ever had from a business leader.
