5.0 out of 5 stars If Disgaea allowed multiplayer the world would cease to funtion. This comes close., October 20, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dokapon Kingdom (Video Game)
Some people may remember that Disgaea was a sleeper hit. This has the potential to be the same. On the PS2 there is nothing else like this game that I am aware of. Each particular facet of the game is very simple. Win a game of Paper, rock, scissors, and walk away with a pocket full of coin. But the game as a whole can become very deep.

The game has PvP. It takes the form of a Suikoden style duels between players and monsters. When you enter combat and are on the offensive and press a button, the proper counter for you opponent is to hit the same button that you did. X is a "normal attack", best countered by X "defense," while Square is a super attack that if countered will cause you to take full damage instead of you opponent. As you win battles you will gain experience and level up and gain stat increases based on your job class.

Within a certain game chapter all players will have a main objective and perhaps several minors ones. The main one may be as simple as kill all monsters. The minors may request that you find and return to a certain city with an item. You'll find that your one turn away from turning the item in when your "friend" suddenly runs by you and steals the item from you!! Perhaps you respond by casting a spell on him, causing him being unable to move and cast fireballs at him until the item falls back into your pouch?

Half the time you'll be trying to hide your smirk, so that your friends won't up and leave your house, the other half of the time you'll be pulling your hair on and be two words away from throwing them all out of the house yourself!.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bored? How about some Dokapon!, November 11, 2008

This review is from: Dokapon Kingdom (Video Game)
How to begin this, well.. For starters, this game is a lot of fun to play.. As long as you've got someone to play it with, I don't imagine it would be any fun at all to play by yourself.. But the depth and addictive nature of this game when playing againsts your friends or in my case my girlfriend! Haha.. That is dangerous territory. It's really funny, when we first started playing this game it was so sweet, we were being so kind to eachother, and the further we got into the game, the more blood thirsty and vicious we became towards one another. True colors start showing, believe me, haha which is great in my book. It might have alot to do with what kind of a player you are, but honestly this game brings out the competitiveness and pure cunning back sliding freak that you never thought possibly existed. We surprisingly were fine after playing the game though, for those who are curious. ;D

As for the actual game play, it's relatively simple, and anyone can pick it up and play. And you don't need to have a multi tap to play with 4 people, you can play the whole game through just one controller which makes it even more accessable. On a side note I totally hate games like Mario Party and the like but, the real selling point for me are the rpg aspects, and the class systems, and the pure depth in which you can sabotage your friends... Blackmailing, stealing their taxes, purses.. Cursing them, drawing on their face.. Changing their name to something less than honorable.. Haha, it's just rediculous and so so funny! And if you start sliding so far behind there is a very evil and dark way to start reigning terror across the land, but you'll have to play it yourself to see what I mean.

So if you're looking for a break from the norm, and have a bunch of friends, pick this up before it's gone. I mean, with all the games coming out these days, it's really hard to decide what to play etc. Choose wisely, choose.. Dokapon. ;p

Pros +

Easy to play
Great with friends
More than just a party game (rpg elements)
Lots of replay value
Class system
Cute anime art style with a evil demented twist

Cons +

Single player is a drag
Some of the battles become tedious and boring
Backtracking through areas suck

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun for the whole family., September 7, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dokapon Kingdom (Video Game)
A friend introduced us to this game and within a week we had all the saves full with different variations on the players.( We have 5 playing adults in this household alone). Even my grandkids (ages 2 & 3) get into the game. Whenever we turn on the Wii they say Dokopon Yeah. They even have started telling us which action we should do and which way to go. We have even had some all-nighters with the friend that introduced us to the game.
To sum it up, we love it. It is easy to play and kid friendly. Would highly recommend it. Can even be played in a friendly, co-op way if you choose. Just cobra strike and magma the town monsters instead of each other.
