Caveat Emptor,
By
This review is from: Dolemite (Audio CD)
Perhaps I missed it being mentioned before buying, but apparantly the CD version of this soundtrack was mastered from a vinyl recording and not the original master tapes. Yes, you can hear artifacts. That wouldn't be so bad if it were the typical hiss and occassional pops and clicks, but this thing was mastered too hot and it clips. I keep wanting to "turn it down", but then remember that's the way it was mastered.
That's the only complaint; the quality of the recording. Everything else is fine, including the packaging and the inclusion of bonus tracks (some taken from DVD audio); the songs themselves are fantastic. Audiophiles might want to look into finding an original vinyl copy and digitizing it themselves. I know I'm thinking of doing that....

Too Funky ! ! !,
This review is from: Dolemite (Audio CD)
If you don't know the meaning of the word funk - - go out and rent a Rudy Ray Moore film and you will experience it in all its elements. Ironically, while many people can play funky (take all that "white boy" Berklee Jam band music) - - being funky is another issue... -- but if you watch a Rudy Ray Moore film EVERYTHING is totally funky... including the threads, the cut, the dialogue - - not to mention the music and everything in between: I mention this for one reason - - Because the Dolemite films were so funky, I forgot how much the soundtracks played in that vibe. Trust me... you can watch those films with the volume turned off - - they're still funky. But - - what about listening to this soundtrack (with the picture turned off) ??? Guess what...
not only is it funky... but I now think that it may very well be one of the FUNKIEST soundtracks of a genre of film that produced some pretty heavy funk... And speaking of funky... like everyone else, I spent years looking for the music on these two albums and couldn't find them. Sadly, it seems possible that even the masters may have gone missing. For this reason, the CD is taken off of a somewhat beaten up record, however, the sound is big, fat and juicy (just like Queen Bee) - - the bass is kicking, horns crisp and all that, so the scratchy noise just adds to it all... All in all - - if you're into ultra jived out funk - - this CD is it, from the overtly funky - - to the funky love themes (Ms. Wonderful is included as well as other music from the HUMAN TORNADO as well.) God bless the label ! ! !

finally getting the Dolemite Music Soundtrack is banging. you can do the "Chicken Noodle Soup" Dance to the Music on this Soundtrack. "Willie Green" that is always associated when you thnk of Rudy Ray Moore. the Grooves are still tight as is the Production.alot of cool extras.hard to believe it's taken all this time for this Music to get to Soundtrack.

A funky as hell soundtrack--but it's an awful vinyl rip off of a very dusty and scratchy LP. I wish I never bought it. Avoid.
