i thoroughly enjoyed the dark forces series. these bools being first brought to my attention when i was a teen were enjoyed by myself and friends and we have been able to pass them on to our kids, and family members. they are suspenseful without being gory or graphic.

2.0 out of 5 stars Horror for the Faint of Heart, May 1, 2000
By A Customer
"The Doll" is for young adults or adults who like reading old horror stories that aren't really very scary. I can't accuse the publishers of false advertising because they did say this book is a "YA novel." As I read "The Doll" I decided that young adults who don't appreciate their horror having it's share of mushy scenes (and I'm not talking about brains and other internal organs splashed all over the place) may not like the smatterings of those things which occur throughout the book (at least it's only in small doses). The second half of the book is the better part. I am well out of the young adult stage and am used to books with a higher reading level. So young adults with a higher than average reading level might want to skip this one. Then again, it might still be good to keep on hand for a rainy day. Considering the horror books and movies we can find these days, this book is pretty tame, but then, I am not a young adult. One of that younger set may very well see "The Doll" in another light; after reading "The Doll" some young adults may never look at carnival prizes the same way again.
